I did ask for this feature a while back, but no-one seemed to think it important enough, staff and other site users included. But now that the site is undergoing a bit of a revamp, I'm going to renew my request for a multi-quote feature on the forums - this would allow a poster to select various posts within a thread that he or she wants to quote, and would save the hassle of having to open a new window for each post to be quoted, and having to copy and paste from these multiple windows into the... Managed to find my original thread Aug 8, 2017

One concern expressed by staff (Enrique Cavalitto) at the time was "I would be concerned about adding additional options that would clutter the interface when a copy-and-paste solution is so simple."

I don't agree, but I wonder if the site is still of the same opinion? My previous thread dates back to 2015.

Not really useful, and there are other ways to obtain the same result Aug 8, 2017

I wouldn't consider this very useful; however, since you do, I suggest as a workaround using a clipboard extender tool like Clipmate (http://www.thornsoft.com/ - commercial), CopyQ (https://hluk.github.io/CopyQ/ - freeware) or ... See more

But wouldn't it be infinitely more practical if we could do this without any tool at all?

Workaround? Why should we have to? Aug 8, 2017

Why should we have to rely on third-party applications when this whole issue could be solved by adding a small icon below each post? It's a feature used by dozens of Internet forums, and I don't see the reason for all the unwillingness to add the feature. Unless Proz fears that we naughty members won't crop our posts property, or might go berserk quoting all and sundry?

yep, and a like button Aug 9, 2017

I agree. I participate in another forum that has multi-quote, and also a like button. At the time of an update, mods told us that they weren't actually responsible for any of the features since they had a third-party firm selling them a package. They only customised by providing a few smileys on the theme of the forum.

It would also be nice to have simple bold and italic and crossing out features.

then you tell us about no less than three tools you use, to achieve the same result that a multi-quote option would do in just a few clicks. Unless you open a separate tab for each post you want to quote of course.

Not very useful, huh?

The clunkiness of this forum (including the inability to quote from various posts and the inability to quote once you've started typing your response) is one of the main reasons I don't participate in this forum as often as I otherwise would have (some might say this is a good thing)

What annoys me no end is when people quote AN ENTIRE POST just to add 'Like' at the bottom. Or (often the case when things get heated) when person 1 starts quoting person 2's post, who then re-quotes person 1's entire post including his (person 2's) original post, and so on. Besides posters taking a bit more care about what and how they post, these issues could be easily solved by a more user-friendly interface.

And having to use HTML code for simple formatting - seriously?

Tool vs. User Aug 10, 2017

Took me exactly 2 secs to cut the parts I didn't want to quote. Those people would do the same even if they had a "multi-quote option". It's not the tool, but who's using it.

HTML code is actually very simple and limited here (as explained in the blue info section). Is pressing a button for "bold" so much better/faster than writing <b>? Besides, any translator who did some website localization is familiar with such basic tags.

I don't do website localization and whenever there are tags all over a text it gives me a headache, so I don't bother putting bold in here.

To a certain extent it's the people using the forum. Here we are all translators and we take care to express ourselves properly and clearly.
The like button would definitely help get rid of posts like Sheila's where she quoted four posts just to say she liked our comments or agreed with them. The multi-quote button would definitely be helpful if you want to comment throughout a discussion when you kind of agree but have provisos. The bold button would help to show which particular bit you're reacting to when you don't want to quote someone out of context.

Of course we can do without this stuff, we've managed up to now. However I'm thinking I might just ditch this website and join a few groups on FB instead. I haven't up to now because FB is for fun not work, but there's LinkedIN too, not sure how that works, it's bound to be more user-friendly than this place which really is a dinosaur-age forum.

I partly agree, however it can get fiddly when there are multiple posts or points within a post you want to respond to, even if you're not a lazy poster.

Being able to use highlight - CTRL b/i/etc would certainly be a lot faster for me than typing in the various codes. I personally very rarely work directly on website texts - as I assume is the case for many others specialisations - and even though I don't mind a bit of code when I'm working, no-one is paying me to contribute to these forums (the opposite, in fact) so I'd prefer the experience to be as smooth and user-friendly as possible.
