French term

parvenu déjà ouvert et vidé de son contenu

French to English Medical Medical (general) chemo-embolisation - liver cancer
Hello again
Sorry to bother you all again, this should be my last query.

Am I right here?

MACROSCOPIE:

A : Vésicule biliaire:

My version

MACROSCOPY:

A : Gall bladder:
A formalin-fixed specimen was received involving a cholecystectomy specimen ****which arrived already open and empty of its contents*** measuring 9.5 x 6 x 0.2 in diameter when spread out. The serous membrane was smooth and uniform and the wall was soft. At the mucosal surface, near the region of the fundus, there was a slightly raised, beige zone, with an uneven surface and measuring 0.4 x 0.4 cm in diameter.

Thank you!

Hollow organs are opened so that the fixative enters.

Even then, specimens often
require a limited dissection to maximize the
surface area exposed to the fixative, thereby ensuring
adequate fixation. Tissue with a hollow
viscous or lumina should be opened
and solid
tissue partially serially sectioned at 5- to 10-mm
intervals.

In the same document:

One important issue to
address at the onset of the dissection is whether
the specimen is received intact. Not uncommonly,
a gallbladder is opened in the operating room
and the stones removed. Receipt of a previously
opened gallbladder should be documented in
the gross description.

Right up your alley :-)
Note from asker:
Hi, thank you for all the explanations. I wasn't 100% clear it was the whole gallbladder, now it all makes sense.

which arrived already open and empty of its contents

seems fine to me.
open or dissected
Peer comment(s):

agree Jean-Claude Gouin : Exactly what Liz suggested. I wouldn't use 'dissected'.
