Está claro que ya tengo unas metas para cuando me gradúe del colegio. Sin embargo tengo que graduarme este año de manera que pueda inscribirme en una buena universidad en Bogota para estudiar diseño gráfico. Desde hace más o menos un año he estado averiguando acerca de las diferentes universidades en Colombia como también en otras partes del mundo por ejemplo Alemania pues antes mi familia tenia planeado irse a vivir allá, pues el resto vive desde hace mucho tiempo en Alemania. Pero las cosas no son seguras y aunque yo tenga familia en esa ciudad no me gustaría escogerla como para estudiar pues no me gusta mucho el ambiente universitario.
Sin embargo planeo estudiar en Colombia y viajar cuantas veces quiera a Alemania y por el mundo pero solo de vacaciones pues me gusta mucho el país en donde vivo aunque a mucha gente le parezca mejor que hoy en día los jóvenes estudien en el exterior. Cuando estaba en el grado 11 es decir hace ya un año en el mes de mayo hice una visita profesional a unas agencias de publicidad en Bogotá básicamente donde trabajan familiares que estudiaron diseño gráfico. De esa semana aprendí como era la vida universitaria y laboral en Bogotá y me pareció muy interesante además de que confirme mi pasión por el diseño pues todo lo que me enseñaron estaba dentro de mis expectativas.
Además de estar en estas agencias de publicidad visité una universidad muy buena, la Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano donde tienen todos los tipos de diseños que puedan existir. Cuando llegue a Cali estaba totalmente convencida de lo que quería hacer con mi vida apenas me graduara. Hace poco el psicólogo del colegio me mostró unos folletos de todas las universidades para diseño en Colombia y encontré otra muy buena, la Colegiatura Colombiana que queda en Medellín.
Hace pocos meses hubo un evento en el colegio Colombo Británico de Cali para un encuentro de universidades donde vienen los representantes de las diferentes universidades de Colombia a este evento para presentar charlas y orientación con respecto a las carreras en cada una. Yo estuve en la de las universidades Autónoma en Cali, la Colegiatura Colombiana en Medellín y la Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano en Bogotá. El programa de la Colegiatura me gustó demasiado pues además de que la carrera dura solo 4 años a la vez puedo hacer también un postgrado es decir que salgo de la universidad con un titulo profesional y además con una especialización en algún campo del diseño.
En el mes de marzo de este año iba a viajar a Medellín para visitar la universidad y ver la ciudad por que no la conozco para ver como era el ambiente pero solo hasta hace poco renuncie a esta oportunidad pues he hablado como muchas personas y me han dicho que en esa ciudad la gente es muy regionalista y que por nada del mundo le darían trabajo a una persona que viene de otra ciudad que no sea esa aunque haya estudiado en la misma. Además personas ya mayores de edad que tienen hijos que estudiaron en Medellín se tuvieron que volver a Cali por que nadie les ofrecía oportunidades de trabajo. Así que prefiero escuchar atentamente y no averiguarlo por mi misma entonces. Por ahora estoy aplicando a la universidad de Bogotá. si me aceptan me iría al finalizar este año escolar y empezaría con las clases el 8 de agosto , pero el 2 de ese mes tengo un examen de ingles para calificar mi nivel y así poder omitir algunas clases que ya son básicas para mi conocimiento.
Cuando esté en la universidad espero ganarme becas en los semestres y ser la mejor de la clase. Para cuando ya haya terminado mi carrera y este lista para trabajar espero trabajar unos cuantos años en la capital en agencias de publicidad donde tenga una amplio campo de trabajo para trabajar con los diseños gráficos de varias marcas pues en eso consiste la carrera de diseño gráfico.
Pero mi mas grande meta seria trabajar en Suiza para la marca de relojes Swatch, diseñando los estilos gráficos para los relojes. Es un trabajo que me encantaría hacer pues soy fanática numero uno de esto, aunque sé que para llegar a ese punto tengo que viajar a Europa y trabajar unos años allá para así obtener experiencia en el continente y así me puedan contratar para esta gran empresa. Lo que quiero decir es que no me gustaría quedarme solo en un campo del diseño gráfico pues me gustaría explorar mas allá de cada tipo de diseño y así ampliar mis conocimientos en esta área.
Otra posibilidad seria trabajar con la publicidad de la marca de vodka, Absolut pues me parece que tanto los publicistas como los diseñadores gráficos que han trabajado para esta gran empresa han hecho un trabajo extraordinario pues han reunido la cultura del mundo que se había olvidado junto a un producto muy comercial como lo es Absolut. Nosotros vivimos en un mundo de consumidores y que es muy visual, donde parte de la cultura pasada se ha olvidado y ya que debido a este tipo de técnica se ha ido olvidando. Me parecería una idea muy buena utilizar ésta para re-incorporar la cultura olvidada mediante imágenes. Pienso que me decidí por la parte cultural por que me parece que en el mundo no solo se necesitan científicos e investigadores sino también gente que aporte a la cultura.
No debemos olvidar que los seres humanos somos una especie muy social donde la convivencia y su desarrollo se rigen por la parte humanística. Así, si la ciencia avanzara demasiado, sus avances serian sólo a nivel de ciencia. No serviría de nada si no nos interesamos por los aspectos sociales, pues de lo contrario dejaríamos de ser humanos. No estoy diciendo que solo la parte cultural deba ser desarrollada sino que en conjunto con todas las otras áreas del conocimiento sean a la par desarrolladas y así crear un mundo parcial donde todo este equilibrado y así convertirnos en seres integrales.
Después de trabajar para diferentes empresas, al fin quiero establecer mi propia familia, preferiblemente en la capital de Colombia y así a la edad de 28 años me veo casada con un colombiano y con dos hijos, una niña y un niño.
Translation - English MY PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
It is obvious that I have some goals when I graduate from school. However, I have to finish school this year so I can register at a prestigious college in Bogota to study graphic design. It is been a year or so that I have been searching for different prestigious colleges in Colombia and in other countries like Germany for my family were planning on moving out there for good. The rest of my relatives live over there long time ago. But I am not too sure how things will turn and even though I have relatives in that city I would not like to choose it as my place to study for I do not really like its university environment.
However I am planning on studying in Colombia and traveling as many times as I can not only to Germany but also throughout the world but also for vacations. I really love the country I am currently living at, despite what many people may think about young people going to study abroad. A year ago when I was in 11th grade, I visited in May some advertising agencies in Bogota where I had some relatives working there who had studied graphic design. In that week I learned how interesting both university and work life was like in Bogota. This also helped to confirm that design was my for everything they showed me met my expectations.
In addition to my visit to these advertising agencies, I visited a very prestigious college named Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano where you can find all different types of design that may exist. When I got back to Cali I was totally convinced of what I wanted to do for a living after I graduated. A few days ago, the school psychologist showed me some brochures from all the most prestigious design colleges in Colombia where I found another excellent one named Colegiatura Colombiana located in Medellin.
A few months ago there was an event at the Colombo Britanico School in Cali where different Colombian colleges encountered. Their representatives presented us orientation guidelines on their different studies. I attended the ones given by the Universidad Autónoma from Cali, the Colegiatura Colombiana from Medellin and the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano from Bogota. I really liked the program presented by the Colegiatura Colombiana not only because I can finish my studies in 4 years but also because there is a major study available. This means that I could get out of college holding a professional degree with a major in any design field.
Last March I was planning on going to Medellin for a college visit and a city tour to check the environment. Finally I decided not to do so for I have spoken with a lot of people and they have told me that it is a very regionalist department and that they are not willing to give job opportunities to people coming from other cities from Colombia even if they had studied in Medellin. I have also heard from elder people with kids who studied in Medellin who had to go back to Cali because they could not find any job opportunities. Thus, I rather listen very carefully instead of finding it out by myself. For now I am filling out applications for colleges in Bogota and should they take me in, I would move there by the end of the school year to start classes by August 8th. On August 2nd I will be taking an English test qualification so I can skip some basic classes that I already know.
Once in college, I look forward to obtaining semester scholarships and being the best student of my class. When I finish my studies I also look forward to working a few years at some advertising agencies in the capital where I could broaden my work field and get enough expertise to enable me to work with different brands graphic designs for this is what my studies are about.
However, I am really anxious to be able to work as a graphic designer for the Swatch watches in Switzerland. This is a job that I would love to do because I am their number fun even though I know that this means I would have to travel to Europe and work there a few years, may be somewhere else to get some expertise in the continent before this big company could hire me. What I mean is that I would not like to get stuck with the graphic design field but I would also like to explore some other different types of graphic design and widen my knowledge in this area.
Another possibility would be to work for the Absolut vodka advertising campaign. I believe that both advertisers and graphic designers have done an excellent job for this brand for they have gathered a forgotten culture of the world with a very commercial commodity as Absolut. We live in a high consumer type of life that is very visual where part of the past culture is being forgotten mainly because of the same reason. I think it would be a very good idea to rebuilt-in forgotten cultures through images. I believe I made my choice on the cultural side because in this world there should be not only scientists and researchers but also people contributing and supporting culture.
We should not forget that we, human beings are a very social species with interacting and development ruled by our humanist side. Thus, although science keeps moving forward too fast this advance would only be at a scientific level. It would not be helpful for us as human beings if we were not interested by social aspects too. This does not mean that only the culture side should be developed. Other areas of knowledge should also be developed at the same time so we can create a balanced world where we can become better and integral human beings.
After having worked for different companies, I would like to settle and raise my own family, preferably in Bogota, the capital of Colombia. I can picture myself at 28 years old, married to a Colombian with two kids – a girl and a boy.
