Bio
I have a 2.1 Class BA Degree in Japanese Studies from Sheffield University, UK.

I then continued my studies at Sheffield and obtained a Masters Degree in Japanese and Translation Studies in 2002.

In 2002 I also passed Grade 1, the highest level, of the Japanese Proficiency Exam.

I am now resident in Japan.

I have been trained to a high level of academic Japanese, which has since been compounded by six years living and working freelance in Japan. My own interests include games, anime and manga and so I try to translate as much of this kind of material as possible - I am also quite a creative writer, vital and yet so often lacking in the field of localization. I am accomplished at writing characters as well as regular game text, care a great deal about reproducing the original feeling of a game and have often played games that I am then asked to translate. I have worked on all current major consoles - Playstation 2 and 3, PSP, Nintendo Gameboy, DS, Wii and Xbox 360.

Aside from entertainment, I also handle business, marketing materials, patents, contracts, internal memos, religious material, planning proposals etc.

I have been working since June 2002 as a freelance translator. I have completed work on over three hundred game and entertainment related projects in that time, from large (200,000+ Japanese characters) to small, manuals, game text, scripts for voice acting and press releases.

Major jobs include -

All of the in-game text for the first major RPG on the Xbox 360, “Enchant Arm,” over 390,000 Japanese characters, and subsequent extra work for additional material added in porting the game to the PlayStation 3.

All of the text for two major RPGs on the Nintento DS, along with numerous other DS games.

Work on numerous Nintendo Wii titles, including “No More Heroes.”

All of the in-game text and voice acting scripts for upcoming PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 title “Rainy Woods”, still in development, that will use English voices in both the Japanese and American versions.

A series of light novels.

As I understand that rates for business material can differ from the entertainment industry, please contact me to discuss rates. I am competitive within each field.
