00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,400
Hello everyone! I wanted to share my
story and some details. I was kind of
2
00:00:05,400 --> 00:00:08,760
hesitating to you know make a video, but
you know what
3
00:00:08,760 --> 00:00:12,780
I thought maybe I should do
that, because few people thought maybe
4
00:00:12,780 --> 00:00:14,099
you know this
5
00:00:14,099 --> 00:00:17,369
maybe I'm not a real person, some people
thought there was some Jewish
6
00:00:17,369 --> 00:00:22,260
conspiracy going on and you know all sorts of ideas
out there. So I wanted to make a
7
00:00:22,260 --> 00:00:27,000
video to show that I am a real person. You know, I was born.. I was born into
8
00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:32,340
a Ismaili family, my dad is a Ismaili; my mom is Sunni and I was raised as an Ismaili and
9
00:00:32,340 --> 00:00:37,050
around the age of maybe 18 or so in highschool I found Islam. Some of my
10
00:00:37,050 --> 00:00:41,370
friends invited me to read the Quran and I
started reading it. I started praying you
11
00:00:41,370 --> 00:00:46,710
know what was called namaz or Salah and...and
I got really excited I found the Quran
12
00:00:46,710 --> 00:00:51,570
and I got really excited about it. I
really liked it and I said, hey this is
13
00:00:51,570 --> 00:00:55,860
God's message to me. I didn't look into
it too critically, I felt like you know I
14
00:00:55,860 --> 00:00:58,800
looked into a little bit about the
religions and stuff and I felt it's just
15
00:00:58,800 --> 00:01:02,460
instinctive, and I felt like this is
something, you know, good; something I want
16
00:01:02,460 --> 00:01:06,840
to follow God's message and I started
praying five times a day and you know
17
00:01:06,840 --> 00:01:10,140
eventually I took a deep dive into Islam.
I started following it with all my heart and
18
00:01:10,140 --> 00:01:16,590
mind, you know. Within like a few days,
after that I started University and then
19
00:01:16,590 --> 00:01:21,509
I got married and then you know... what else
and I started working. So when I was
20
00:01:21,509 --> 00:01:25,140
working I tried my best to implement
Islam, you know, I would pray even at the
21
00:01:25,140 --> 00:01:28,860
office; I would find the stairwell; I
would go and pray wherever I could you
22
00:01:28,860 --> 00:01:31,740
know and I would get, if I had a
prayer room you know I would invite other
23
00:01:31,740 --> 00:01:35,400
people to come pray with me and even
university you know in the middle of
24
00:01:35,400 --> 00:01:38,729
exams I would stop to pray. I would ask
them can I please get up, I need to say my
25
00:01:38,729 --> 00:01:42,570
prayers for Maghrib (sunset prayer) especially. And yeah
I was following it to the best of my
26
00:01:42,570 --> 00:01:46,799
ability, to be honest. I sincerely believed
in Islam. I used to give out some
27
00:01:46,799 --> 00:01:51,060
DVDs and I made some DVDs of my own with
some Islamic videos. I used to go from
28
00:01:51,060 --> 00:01:56,490
mosque to mosque videotaping lectures and
at conferences and.. and I wanted to
29
00:01:56,490 --> 00:02:00,000
promote it because I felt truly in my
heart this was the true religion I
30
00:02:00,000 --> 00:02:03,600
wanted people to go Jannah (paradise), I wanted Allah
to be pleased with me and you know I
31
00:02:03,600 --> 00:02:07,649
wanted to follow the prophet and so
that's what I did! I created a website:
32
00:02:07,649 --> 00:02:11,970
lightuponlight.com and you know eventually
another one was versebyversequran.com too to
33
00:02:11,970 --> 00:02:13,800
promote Islam because I believed in it
34
00:02:13,800 --> 00:02:20,100
and there's still a bunch of videos on there,
if you go and see of that I videotaped
35
00:02:20,100 --> 00:02:23,010
myself.. Some of the lectures and some of
the other ones I got permission from
36
00:02:23,010 --> 00:02:29,310
others to put online so that's..that's
what I was doing and when I started
37
00:02:29,310 --> 00:02:33,060
working you know, I would avoid jobs that
were involved with riba (usury/interest) you know
38
00:02:33,060 --> 00:02:34,560
anything to do with the bank.
39
00:02:34,560 --> 00:02:37,410
I wouldn't work for any banks whatsoever,
I wouldn't work in the media industry
40
00:02:37,410 --> 00:02:40,200
like television or music.
41
00:02:40,200 --> 00:02:42,900
Personally I would avoid listening to..
I wouldn't listen to music, I wouldn't
42
00:02:42,900 --> 00:02:47,880
let my kids listen to music. I've even put my kids
in Islamic school, you know for as much
43
00:02:47,880 --> 00:02:51,630
as I could afford it, even though it was
expensive here in Canada. But I mean
44
00:02:51,630 --> 00:02:55,080
that's what you do, right? If you are a Muslim and
you truly believe in all your heart as
45
00:02:55,080 --> 00:02:59,250
well you know I used to rent, I didn't have a
mortgage because I believed in it. Now,
46
00:02:59,250 --> 00:03:03,720
you know the came a point in my life where I
started having a little bit out of doubt here and there.
47
00:03:03,720 --> 00:03:11,070
Small doubts and eventually you know
I was at one year.. two years ago, I had
48
00:03:11,070 --> 00:03:14,340
some doubts, I was discussing with a
friend online and he mentioned that a
49
00:03:14,340 --> 00:03:17,940
lot of the stories in the Quran actually
come from Jewish folk tales. I was very
50
00:03:17,940 --> 00:03:22,320
surprised about that like Jewish folk
tales. I said no no you mean it came from
51
00:03:22,320 --> 00:03:26,670
the Bible or the Hebrew Torah and when I
looked into it I found out that actually
52
00:03:26,670 --> 00:03:29,700
a lot of the stories that from the
Talmud which is actually the Jewish
53
00:03:29,700 --> 00:03:33,630
commentary and the Jewish stories and
basically the rabbis you know
54
00:03:33,630 --> 00:03:39,750
commentary of the.. of the traditions and
so it doesn't let them have a divine
55
00:03:39,750 --> 00:03:43,620
origin and you know I also had a big
problem with the story of Dhul Qarnayn you
56
00:03:43,620 --> 00:03:48,870
know, this..this tribe of how Dhul Qarnayn, he trapped this tribe of people
57
00:03:48,870 --> 00:03:54,780
Yajuj and Majuj, Gog and Magog behind a
giant gate built of copper
58
00:03:54,780 --> 00:03:59,610
and iron and and I was wondering where
is this place. How come we can't find it
59
00:03:59,610 --> 00:04:04,020
you know we have Google Earth and all that
and how come we can't find it. So that was
60
00:04:04,020 --> 00:04:07,020
another doubt and actually I believe
left Islam for one day.
61
00:04:08,030 --> 00:04:11,330
But then I decided you know what I'm
gonna put my doubts aside you know I'm
62
00:04:11,330 --> 00:04:11,840
Muslim,
63
00:04:11,840 --> 00:04:14,750
I want to go to Jannah (Paradise), I want to believe
in Allah and I became Muslim for one more year.
64
00:04:14,750 --> 00:04:20,389
And then last year, so one year ago is
when I truly, actually when I truly left
65
00:04:20,389 --> 00:04:21,799
Islam for good.
66
00:04:21,799 --> 00:04:28,460
I was in a Ramadan and it was out
there at a pre-iftar halaqah (lecture) and the
67
00:04:28,460 --> 00:04:32,210
Sheikh was saying you know Allah holds up the sky without any pillars and this
68
00:04:32,210 --> 00:04:35,990
brought back on my doubts about you know,
if the Quran is truly from the God,
69
00:04:35,990 --> 00:04:39,020
the creator of the universe that you
know the one that knows all
70
00:04:39,020 --> 00:04:39,889
things.
71
00:04:39,889 --> 00:04:44,360
Why is describing the world in a way
that you know was the seventh century
72
00:04:44,360 --> 00:04:47,960
understanding of the world. Like the sky
doesn't have, okay we know this sky
73
00:04:47,960 --> 00:04:51,800
doesn't have any pillars that you can
see.. but there's no need for pillars
74
00:04:51,800 --> 00:04:56,480
like we're just a ball in the space. Sky is
just this.. just emptiness, it's just
75
00:04:56,480 --> 00:05:00,650
emptiness of space so there's no, there's
no need for any pillars visible or
76
00:05:00,650 --> 00:05:04,430
invisible and you know there's many
things like that like the the orbit of
77
00:05:04,430 --> 00:05:08,330
the Sun and the Moon. Why Allah
describes an orbit of the Sun and
78
00:05:08,330 --> 00:05:11,360
the moon. Like we know the orbit of the
Moon is around the Earth.. that makes
79
00:05:11,360 --> 00:05:14,570
sense, but the orbit of the Sun.. like what orbit
would that be?
80
00:05:14,570 --> 00:05:18,260
You know I looked into this I found well
there is an orbit it's 300 million year
81
00:05:18,260 --> 00:05:22,400
orbit. Of the sun around the Milky way galaxy which has nothing to do with
82
00:05:22,400 --> 00:05:26,270
humanity whatsoever because it's
completely useless but of course at that
83
00:05:26,270 --> 00:05:31,400
time you know the Muslims who would have
thought that this.. this orbit is a is
84
00:05:31,400 --> 00:05:35,780
orbit of the Sun around Earth and even
Sahih (Authentic) Hadid, Prophet Muhammad he asked his
85
00:05:35,780 --> 00:05:39,530
companions do you know where the Sun
goes at the time of Maghrib and
86
00:05:39,530 --> 00:05:42,530
they said you know Allah knows best and
his messenger knows best and he said it
87
00:05:42,530 --> 00:05:45,919
goes beneath the throne of Allah. Now we
know that the Sun is actually still
88
00:05:45,919 --> 00:05:49,310
there and it's actually the Earth that's
going around the Sun. So you know this
89
00:05:49,310 --> 00:05:52,850
one and many other things they didn't
add up to me that the creator of
90
00:05:52,850 --> 00:05:55,039
the universe is making these mistakes.
91
00:05:55,039 --> 00:05:58,280
Or describing it in a way that
doesn't make any sense today.
92
00:05:58,280 --> 00:06:02,240
Now based on our new information.. A nd it
made me wonder, is it truly Allah the
93
00:06:02,240 --> 00:06:05,600
creator or is it just coming from a man
that lived in the seventh century that
94
00:06:05,600 --> 00:06:10,160
believed these things and was was
basically writing them as he went. And so
95
00:06:10,160 --> 00:06:13,880
you know, the stories in the Quran
like like I said Dhul Qarnayn you know
96
00:06:13,880 --> 00:06:17,360
where is Gog and Magog (Yajuj and Majuj). There's this supposed to be you know
97
00:06:17,360 --> 00:06:20,659
millions and millions of them stuck
behind this dam, we haven't found any
98
00:06:20,659 --> 00:06:21,680
such giant gate any
99
00:06:21,680 --> 00:06:25,460
where in the world I mean even some of the..I
think it was Omar who went to look for it
100
00:06:25,460 --> 00:06:30,470
and they didn't find it .I mean it
doesn't make any sense right.. And so these
101
00:06:30,470 --> 00:06:34,759
things my doubts began to grow and grow
and eventually I got to the point where
102
00:06:34,759 --> 00:06:38,449
I said this can be from God. I don't
believe in this anymore and because my
103
00:06:38,449 --> 00:06:41,870
doubt became more than my certainty and
when I started to look into each one of
104
00:06:41,870 --> 00:06:45,680
the claims in the
Quran that the Quran is actually from
105
00:06:45,680 --> 00:06:49,789
God, like embryology, and the mountains
and all of these things including the
106
00:06:49,789 --> 00:06:53,509
language I found they just fell down
flat. Like for example you know
107
00:06:53,509 --> 00:06:57,979
embryology, you know all you have to do
is look into these things in detail to
108
00:06:57,979 --> 00:07:02,750
see how people...misrepresented Quran
to be a scientific thing when actually
109
00:07:02,750 --> 00:07:06,919
it's not you know. These..these stories
were meant to be like you know kind of
110
00:07:06,919 --> 00:07:10,400
to bring you to remember God and to say look how amazing it is
111
00:07:10,400 --> 00:07:14,389
that you know the the embryo how it grows.
It wasn't meant to be you know
112
00:07:14,389 --> 00:07:17,120
scientifically accurate when you look
into it you'll find it's actually the
113
00:07:17,120 --> 00:07:20,990
idea is flawed. And same thing with the
stories in the Quran you know like if
114
00:07:20,990 --> 00:07:24,919
they were true stories why is it that
we're finding trouble you know
115
00:07:24,919 --> 00:07:28,970
verifying these facts. I'll make another
video about Dhul Qarnayn in the future. It's
116
00:07:28,970 --> 00:07:35,030
a longer topic but in summary.
I just don't believe that there's any
117
00:07:35,030 --> 00:07:40,070
possibility that this actually came from
a divine being, this book, the Quran and
118
00:07:40,070 --> 00:07:43,550
when you look into it you'll find many
things that don't add up
119
00:07:44,150 --> 00:07:47,810
and this is why I had to eventually
leave Islam despite all the investment I
120
00:07:47,810 --> 00:07:52,070
put into it you know emotional
investment, and you know my personality,
121
00:07:52,070 --> 00:07:57,530
my friends you know everything was Islam
to me. So this was a huge loss you know
122
00:07:57,530 --> 00:08:01,400
losing God and some people want to know
what I believe now. I personally don't
123
00:08:01,400 --> 00:08:05,570
believe there's any God so I'm atheist
but you know if someone would ask well
124
00:08:05,570 --> 00:08:10,460
where did everything come from, I would say I'm
still I'm still learning and I don't
125
00:08:10,460 --> 00:08:13,909
think we have all the answers but it is
possible, there is a force you know
126
00:08:13,909 --> 00:08:15,680
outside of the universe.
127
00:08:15,680 --> 00:08:18,740
I don't know if you wouldn't call it
necessarily God, you could call it God but
128
00:08:18,740 --> 00:08:23,060
you know, a force, a power, a being that
made everything.. that made everything
129
00:08:23,060 --> 00:08:26,750
into what it is but this.. this being from
what I can tell you know either does not
130
00:08:26,750 --> 00:08:30,289
care about us or does not know about us, is
not interested in us. You know it doesn't
131
00:08:30,289 --> 00:08:33,380
answer dua (prayers) ..doesn't like if you just
look at the state of the world today
132
00:08:34,120 --> 00:08:37,270
all the suffering and all the pain, it
does not look like there's any God out
133
00:08:37,270 --> 00:08:40,870
there, that cares for us, that is looking out for us
and in fact that's what I believe that
134
00:08:40,870 --> 00:08:44,050
if there is a creator, either he doesn't
know about us or he doesn't care about
135
00:08:44,050 --> 00:08:47,680
us and he's just letting all these things
happen and which is why I'm.. I'm.. I'm an
136
00:08:47,680 --> 00:08:51,790
atheist because.. because I don't believe that
the..that there is a God but if there is a
137
00:08:51,790 --> 00:08:55,839
creator out there I mean maybe he has no
personality, maybe it's just like a force
138
00:08:55,839 --> 00:08:56,650
or power
139
00:08:56,650 --> 00:08:57,339
you know...
Translation - Russian 1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,400
2
00:00:05,400 --> 00:00:08,760
3
00:00:08,760 --> 00:00:12,780
4
00:00:12,780 --> 00:00:14,099
5
00:00:14,099 --> 00:00:17,369
6
00:00:17,369 --> 00:00:22,260

00:00:22,260 --> 00:00:27,000
8
00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:32,340
семье исмаилитов, мой папа является исмаилитом;
9
00:00:32,340 --> 00:00:37,050
10
00:00:37,050 --> 00:00:41,370
11
00:00:41,370 --> 00:00:46,710
12
00:00:46,710 --> 00:00:51,570
13
00:00:51,570 --> 00:00:55,860
14
00:00:55,860 --> 00:00:58,800
15
00:00:58,800 --> 00:01:02,460
16
00:01:02,460 --> 00:01:06,840
17
00:01:06,840 --> 00:01:10,140
18
00:01:10,140 --> 00:01:16,590
19
00:01:16,590 --> 00:01:21,509
что еще
20
00:01:21,509 --> 00:01:25,140
21
00:01:25,140 --> 00:01:28,860
22
00:01:28,860 --> 00:01:31,740
23
00:01:31,740 --> 00:01:35,400
24
00:01:35,400 --> 00:01:38,729
25
00:01:38,729 --> 00:01:42,570
26
00:01:42,570 --> 00:01:46,799
27
00:01:46,799 --> 00:01:51,060
28
00:01:51,060 --> 00:01:56,490
29
00:01:56,490 --> 00:02:00,000
30
00:02:00,000 --> 00:02:03,600
31
00:02:03,600 --> 00:02:07,649
32
00:02:07,649 --> 00:02:11,970
еще один - versebyversequran.com, также, чтобы
33
00:02:11,970 --> 00:02:13,800
34
00:02:13,800 --> 00:02:20,100
35
00:02:20,100 --> 00:02:23,010
36
00:02:23,010 --> 00:02:29,310
37
00:02:29,310 --> 00:02:33,060
38
00:02:33,060 --> 00:02:34,560
39
00:02:34,560 --> 00:02:37,410
40
00:02:37,410 --> 00:02:40,200
41
00:02:40,200 --> 00:02:42,900
42
00:02:42,900 --> 00:02:47,880
43
00:02:47,880 --> 00:02:51,630
44
00:02:51,630 --> 00:02:55,080
45
00:02:55,080 --> 00:02:59,250
46
00:02:59,250 --> 00:03:03,720
47
00:03:03,720 --> 00:03:11,070
48
00:03:11,070 --> 00:03:14,340
49
00:03:14,340 --> 00:03:17,940
50
00:03:17,940 --> 00:03:22,320
51
00:03:22,320 --> 00:03:26,670
52
00:03:26,670 --> 00:03:29,700
53
00:03:29,700 --> 00:03:33,630
54
00:03:33,630 --> 00:03:39,750
55
00:03:39,750 --> 00:03:43,620
56
00:03:43,620 --> 00:03:48,870
57
00:03:48,870 --> 00:03:54,780
58
00:03:54,780 --> 00:03:59,610
59
00:03:59,610 --> 00:04:04,020
60
00:04:04,020 --> 00:04:07,020
61
00:04:08,030 --> 00:04:11,330
62
00:04:11,330 --> 00:04:11,840
63
00:04:11,840 --> 00:04:14,750
64
00:04:14,750 --> 00:04:20,389
65
00:04:20,389 --> 00:04:21,799
66
00:04:21,799 --> 00:04:28,460
67
00:04:28,460 --> 00:04:32,210
68
00:04:32,210 --> 00:04:35,990
69
00:04:35,990 --> 00:04:39,020
70
00:04:39,020 --> 00:04:39,889
все.
71
00:04:39,889 --> 00:04:44,360
72
00:04:44,360 --> 00:04:47,960
73
00:04:47,960 --> 00:04:51,800
74
00:04:51,800 --> 00:04:56,480
75
00:04:56,480 --> 00:05:00,650
76
00:05:00,650 --> 00:05:04,430
77
00:05:04,430 --> 00:05:08,330
78
00:05:08,330 --> 00:05:11,360
79
00:05:11,360 --> 00:05:14,570
80
00:05:14,570 --> 00:05:18,260
81
00:05:18,260 --> 00:05:22,400
82
00:05:22,400 --> 00:05:26,270
83
00:05:26,270 --> 00:05:31,400
84
00:05:31,400 --> 00:05:35,780
85
00:05:35,780 --> 00:05:39,530
86
00:05:39,530 --> 00:05:42,530
87
00:05:42,530 --> 00:05:45,919
88
00:05:45,919 --> 00:05:49,310
89
00:05:49,310 --> 00:05:52,850
90
00:05:52,850 --> 00:05:55,039
91
00:05:55,039 --> 00:05:58,280
92
00:05:58,280 --> 00:06:02,240
93
00:06:02,240 --> 00:06:05,600
94
00:06:05,600 --> 00:06:10,160
95
00:06:10,160 --> 00:06:13,880
96
00:06:13,880 --> 00:06:17,360
97
00:06:17,360 --> 00:06:20,659
98
00:06:20,659 --> 00:06:21,680
99
00:06:21,680 --> 00:06:25,460
100
00:06:25,460 --> 00:06:30,470
101
00:06:30,470 --> 00:06:34,759
102
00:06:34,759 --> 00:06:38,449
103
00:06:38,449 --> 00:06:41,870
104
00:06:41,870 --> 00:06:45,680
105
00:06:45,680 --> 00:06:49,789
106
00:06:49,789 --> 00:06:53,509
107
00:06:53,509 --> 00:06:57,979
108
00:06:57,979 --> 00:07:02,750
109
00:07:02,750 --> 00:07:06,919
110
00:07:06,919 --> 00:07:10,400
111
00:07:10,400 --> 00:07:14,389
112
00:07:14,389 --> 00:07:17,120
113
00:07:17,120 --> 00:07:20,990
114
00:07:20,990 --> 00:07:24,919
115
00:07:24,919 --> 00:07:28,970
116
00:07:28,970 --> 00:07:35,030
117
00:07:35,030 --> 00:07:40,070
118
00:07:40,070 --> 00:07:43,550
119
00:07:44,150 --> 00:07:47,810
120
00:07:47,810 --> 00:07:52,070
121
00:07:52,070 --> 00:07:57,530
122
00:07:57,530 --> 00:08:01,400
123
00:08:01,400 --> 00:08:05,570
124
00:08:05,570 --> 00:08:10,460
125
00:08:10,460 --> 00:08:13,909
126
00:08:13,909 --> 00:08:15,680
127
00:08:15,680 --> 00:08:18,740
128
00:08:18,740 --> 00:08:23,060
129
00:08:23,060 --> 00:08:26,750
130
00:08:26,750 --> 00:08:30,289
131
00:08:30,289 --> 00:08:33,380
132
00:08:34,120 --> 00:08:37,270
133
00:08:37,270 --> 00:08:40,870
134
00:08:40,870 --> 00:08:44,050
135
00:08:44,050 --> 00:08:47,680
136
00:08:47,680 --> 00:08:51,790
137
00:08:51,790 --> 00:08:55,839
138
00:08:55,839 --> 00:08:56,650
139
00:08:56,650 --> 00:08:57,339
Russian to English: Translation of a piece of thesis on the metallurgy subject from Russian into English General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Metallurgy / Casting
Translation - English The dependences of the mechanical properties of the alloy from its processing parameters are shown in figure 4. The analysis of the behavior of the mechanical properties has shown that during quenching in water, these mechanical properties discussed in paper [4] are changing by rules characteristic of the alloy VT16 that has a molybdenum equivalent comparable to the one of the investigated alloy and quenched to α” martensite. As in that case, there are some increase in rupture strength while the reheat temperature rises up to the temperature of polymorphic transformation and the decrease of σ0.2 in the temperature range of quenching (in our case - 815-865 ºС) (fig. 4, b) where the detectable metastable β-solid solution is deformation-unstable and may undergo the strain-induced β→α” martensitic transformation. Elongation decreases (from 10 to 5 %) as the quenching temperature rises, especially near and above the temperature of polymorphic transformation, most likely because of the primary α – phase disappearance in the structure and the activation of the growth processes of the β-grain (fig. 1, d).
The level of strength properties of the alloy that has been air-cooled changes through the maximum at 890 ºС (fig. 4, b). Exactly near that temperature, from 865 ºС (fig. 2, a), the decay of the β-solid solution begins, accompanied by the precipitation of the dispersed secondary α– particles, which contributes to the increase of strength. The level of the ductile characteristics when processing near and above the temperature of polymorphic transformation after air cooling is higher than after quenching in water due to the martensitic component absence in the structure.
After furnace cooling, the strength properties generally decrease as the reheat temperature rises (fig. 4, c), which can be associated with the enlargement of the β → α – transformation products (fig. 2, c, d). The elongation is quite high and does not change while the temperature increases and remains above 15 %.
Comparative analysis of the values of the impact strength dependent on the reheat temperature and the cooling environment (fig. 4, d) has shown that their rate of change has much in common with elongation change: namely, impact strength and elongation have their maximum values after furnace cooling and their minimum values after quenching in water. At the same time, the values of impact strength and elongation dependent on the reheat temperature change little after furnace cooling and tend to decrease as the reheat temperature rises after quenching in water.

Source text - English There is an entire branch of science called psychology, and it investigates how our minds work. If you think of all the life on this planet, such a tiny fraction of all living things can learn even basic things. At the very top of the “cognition pyramid” are us - humans. Humans can learn multiple languages, perform open heart surgery, and memorize hundreds of digits of pi. The human brain is extremely complex, and it’s really amazing how we are able to learn, remember, and put our knowledge into action. There’s a lot to learn about learning, but we’re just going to focus on how YOU learn.
Think of all the things you know how to do. You didn’t learn them all the same way. For example, you learned how to walk without anyone teaching you how to walk. Walking is something that humans naturally try to do when their brains and bodies are developmentally ready to walk. You learned how to read in a very different way - someone had to teach you. Humans don’t naturally know how to read, but we are able to associate symbols (letters) with the sounds and meanings of language. There are many pathways and processes in our brains that put together all the information needed to read and retain what you’ve read. The same is true for understanding and doing math, though different pathways are involved. In some brains, some of these learning, memory, and performing pathways are “wired” differently. What this means is that some people are exceptionally good at some things, like memorizing long lists of facts or computing difficult math problems mentally in a matter of seconds. It also means that some people struggle with learning some things. Some people have dyslexia, which is a condition that makes it difficult for them to read or understand what they are reading. Dyslexia is just one type of learning disability. Other types of learning disabilities include processing disorders, where some of these mental pathways are connected in a different order or work at a different speed. People with learning disabilities aren’t necessarily more or less intelligent than anyone else - they just are one example of how everyone learns differently.
There is so much to learn about learning, and we hope you’ll do some more research on your own if you find this really interesting. But for now, let’s focus on just how one person learns: you. As a student, it will benefit you to understand how YOU learn so that you can study in the best way possible. What you may find is that one of your friends can study the night before a test and get an A+ with hardly any effort, but you may not be able to do that. Conversely, one of your other friends might study for hours and hours but still struggle to get just a passing grade.
Here are some facts about learning that apply to just about everyone:
The foundation of learning is memory. The first part of committing something to memory is encoding. This is the process of putting new information into your memory. This could be controlled, or effortful, processing - like when you are trying to learn how to find the zeros of a quadratic function. It could also be automatic processing - like when you notice it’s cold outside or your phone buzzes after getting a text. We encode things visually (through sight), acoustically (through hearing), or semantically (through meaning). The most effective way to encode something is semantically, and better still, it’s best if you relate the meaning of a new piece of information to your own life.
For example, take the word congenial. Congenial means “friendly.” You could commit this to your memory visually, and in fact, you already have - you read it. You could commit this to your memory acoustically by hearing it - try saying the word and its definition out loud. But you’re most likely to remember this word by thinking of how the word congenial applies to your life. Who is the most congenial person in your life? What is it that makes them so congenial? Come up with a sentence that connects this person with the definition of congenial. Now you’re far more likely to remember what congenial means!
Part of encoding information may include maintenance rehearsal, which is consistently reviewing information. You did this as a child when you were memorizing times tables. You also do it when you need to remember something temporarily, like a phone number, an address, or a few facts that will be on a history test that you’re about to take. We also use mnemonics to help us remember things. Parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction is list of math operations that must be performed in that order, but it’s hard to remember those operations. However, many students easily remember the word PEMDAS, or the phrase Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, and they are able to recall the order of operations.
The information that we encode is transferred to storage. We have several types of memory storage, which include short-term memory, working memory, and long-term memory. Short-term memory is what it sounds like - it saves information that we won’t need for the rest of our lives. You probably don’t remember all of the content on a history test you took two years ago, unless you really enjoyed history or you review the content often. Likewise, you probably don’t remember the second math problem you worked through a few days ago. We encounter so much information that we don’t need to remember, which is why we have short-term memory. Working memory uses information that we know and combines it with short-term memory. One example of when we use working memory is when we take a reading comprehension test. You read a passage and then you answer questions about it. But soon after the test is done, you will probably forget most of the passage and the questions that followed.
When it comes to learning, long-term memory is the memory storage on which we focus most of our efforts. Because your brain encounters so much information every day, memorizing lists of words, facts, dates, math facts, and so on, is just as important to your brain as the color of the walls of your classroom. Almost all new information is stored temporarily (unless, of course, you encode it semantically from the beginning), but when you repeatedly study this information and find ways to encode it, you transfer information from short-term memory to long-term memory.
As you are studying, whether for a class or for a standardized test, it is important to treat every study session as an opportunity to commit information to long-term memory. You will need to experiment with different encoding strategies to commit information to your long-term memory. Once information is in your long-term memory, it is there forever (barring any unfortunate accidents or diseases which affect your memory!). Your brain will continue to connect old information that you’ve learned with new information, and the more frequently you activate these fact clusters in your mind, the faster and better you’ll remember it. Even if you, say, stop using the quadratic formula after high school, you will still remember it decades later when someone asks you about it. You will be able to recall and retrieve your knowledge of it, and just like dusting off books that have been untouched for years, you will be able to remember how to use it or you will be able to quickly relearn it.
Now that you understand better how our minds work, start actively learning how you learn. Pay attention to what works for you, and what doesn’t. You may find that some types of encoding work really well for some classes and really badly for others. The only way you’ll be able to tell is by practicing (also called studying.) You may find that some part of learning and memory seems really hard, or almost impossible, for you. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help - maybe a teacher, tutor, or learning specialist can help you come up with strategies to learn better.
If you remember nothing else from this article, remember this: the most effective way to learn is to encode information semantically and to review it frequently to commit it to long-term memory. This takes time, dedication, and patience, but it is worth it. Your grades and test scores will thank you!

An electric current is a flow of electric charge.
The unit of current is the ampère [A], which is named for the French scientist André-Marie Ampère.
Electric current is any movement of electric charge carriers, such as subatomic charged particles (e.g., electrons having negative charge, protons having positive charge), ions (atoms that have lost or gained one or more electrons), or holes (electron deficiencies that may be thought of as positive particles).
Electric current in a wire, where the charge carriers are electrons, is a measure of the quantity of charge passing any point of the wire per unit of time.
In alternating current the motion of the electric charges is periodically reversed; in direct current it is not.
In many contexts the direction of the current in electric circuits is taken as the direction of positive charge flow, the direction opposite to the actual electron drift.
When so defined the current is called conventional current.
Translation - Russian

«BoundtoLead:TheChangingNatureofAmericanPower»).
Translation - English Global and regional military conflicts, international terrorism, the tension growth and the ongoing economic crisis, as a result of these phenomena, have led to mass emigration of large number of people from Africa and the Middle East to Europe and the neighboring countries. At the same time, the efforts of the international community to overcome the described problems and find possible solutions have not brought the desired results. Against this background, inferiority and shallow policy of "hard power" or military aggression is becoming more evident, making the international community believe that, in spite of their inevitability in some cases, global efforts should gradually shift to the use of the humanitarian, socio-economic, cultural and democratic values advantages.
Spain, like most of the modern world powers, has not become an exception of this trend. The country has been actively using the instruments offered by the theory and practice of "soft power" concept in its foreign policy, supplementing it by its national character, historical heritage and the experience of past generations. The key role is played by the Spanish language and its progressive expansion across the globe, Spanish culture, including literature, cinema, music, painting, architecture, Spanish values and influences that have become native to entire regions. The effectiveness of such policy is proved by the constant growth of the Spanish language popularity. Today, it is the second most popular language in the world. The popularity of modern Spanish-language music is growing as well , also because of its serious commercialization. More and more people show the interest in Spanish culture and everything represented by it.
The factors described above became crucial in choosing the topic of the research. The detailed study of methods and tools of the Spanish "soft power" in the modern foreign policy of the country seems to be interesting, useful and timely that meet all the requirements to such researches. At the same time, the topic's depth and complexity leave a room to carry on the study in this field in future planning the graduation work.
The object of research in this work is the foreign policy of Spain in the modern period in terms of the "soft power" concept, in other words, the whole complex of methods, tools, and instruments that is included in the understanding of this concept, as well as methods and results of its implementation through the analysis of Spanish foreign policy doctrine in the regional context.
The subject of the study can be divided into several components. First of all, it is the notion and tools of the Spanish "soft power" concept. The second component is the relationship between Spain and its partners on the world scene, including the ones within the European Union, with Asian countries, and with the countries of the American continent. At the same time, the implementation of "soft power" methods in every region is defined both by the specificity of the Spanish foreign policy and historical relationships with specific countries and their approaches to interact with the Spanish kingdom and its prospects.
The objectives of this work are conducting a comprehensive analysis of the Spanish foreign policy practice in the context of the "soft power" concept and identification of the strengths and weaknesses of such a policy, making recommendations for its further improvement, also in the context of globalization and national integration in the modern world.
During the study the following methods have been used: historical and contextual analysis of scientific, educational and publicistic literature, examination of documentation concerning the undergraduate thesis, theoretical analysis and synthesis.
The first chapter of the undergraduate thesis is devoted to the "soft power" concept analysis and its correlation with Spain and its foreign policy concept. This chapter discusses the tools and resources of the Spanish "soft power" and the country's integration into the world community by means of their application.
The second chapter is devoted to the analysis of interaction of Spain with its neighbours in the European Union, the largest states in the Asian region, the United States and Latin America. None of the efforts in the international arena will succeed without strong political and ideological allies. The "soft power" concept effectiveness, in the framework of Spain's foreign policy, could not be achieved without cooperation with partners and developing joint actions.
The final part of my work is about what role Spain plays in the global world, what position it takes, and whether the Spanish State represents itself a useful object of global peace.
The structure of the undergraduate thesis has been formed according to the set task. It consists of the introduction, three chapters, conclusion and list of references.
1. The "Soft Power" and Spain: concept, features, methods
1.1. The theory of the "soft power" concept
The politological term "soft power" first appeared in 1990 in the work of American scientist Joseph S. Nye, Jr. "Bound to Lead: The Changing Nature of American Power". Further, the political scientist has expanded the term in the book "Soft Power: The Means to Success in World Politics" Средства достичь успеха в мировой политике» (англ. which was published in 2004. In the book, the concept "soft power" has got its complete and full-scale meaning, transformed into an independent direction of a state's foreign policy.
The fact that the term "soft power" has appeared in the United States has serious historical background. Complexity and various meanings of the term "power" have always been close to the American type of thinking that is intent on fighting in the and-let-the-best-man-win format. US political and military elite was the environment where the term "power" was used most frequently always infused with a sense of domination, influence and force – all the constants that define a leader on the world scene. Working in the US Department of State, Joseph Nye was surrounded by atmosphere in which the USA was positioning itself as "superpower" with unique and infinite power. This environment helped him undertake a broader examination of the term "power" itself, and, with his expertise and theoretical studies, the political scientist has formulated the "soft power" concept well-known throughout the world today. The basic idea of this concept lies in the fact that the "soft power" - is "the ability to persuade others to want the same thing that you want, or calling, "co-optive" method of power implementation" ; . Thus, the "soft power" is the ability of an actor to get the desired attracting to his side partners or opponents thanks to the influence and attractive power, rather than by making him doing applying pressure.
At the same time, this tool of external influence, like any other, has its own methods of influence and resources. Thus, according to Joseph Nye, "soft power" resources in international relations are all those methods that "inspire and attract" to the source of the corresponding effect, allowing the one who owns the existing tools to achieve the desired result ." Such methods and resources are usually of an intangible nature and associated with the basic ideological values of a state: culture, ideology, and institutions. Accordingly, the actor's "soft" way to influence his opponents is confronted by the "hard" power, which is usually associated with the underlying physical resources of a state, such as military power and economic potential .
Describing the "soft power" concept, Joseph Nye modeled his idea on the United States example, using methods and techniques available in the arsenal of modern American diplomacy. According to the concept, described by the American scientist, the essence and the most resistant to external factors basis of the American concept of "soft power" - is the attractiveness of the American way of life, including the "American Dream" and culture. "The author notes the US leadership on such indicators as the number of immigrants entering the country and remaining for permanent residence, the market size of the annually manufactured television production, the popularity of the American music, the total number of foreign students in US colleges and universities and the list of American citizens - Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry and economics" . The second constant of the US "soft power" is the American political system, including democratic elections, which is popular around the world, right up to attempts to copy and "spread" it. Most of the researchers consider liberal democratic system and a developed market economy as key achievements and value categories, formed in the American state, and popularized by the US authorities worldwide by using so-called "public diplomacy" means. In addition to the instruments mentioned, the political scientist believes that the central role belongs to the "diplomatic efforts", used by the parties, for example, in the course of the settlement of a international multilateral or local crises, as opposed to such actions as sanctions or military force."
The theoretical basis of the "soft power" concept provides a comprehensive evidence base of the need to adhere to the principles, as well as the importance of hard, daily work of diplomats, professionals responsible actors "on the ground", aimed at building long-term trust relationships with partners. "At the same time, the American political scientist focuses on the activities of non-governmental organizations to lobby the state interests abroad." The author believes that the importance of "soft power," in comparison with the economic and military force during the "information boom" (the exponential growth of the value and "force" of the convincing/attracting information impact on modern society), has increased . Help in keeping the focus on the American political system in this context should be given by the attractiveness of the essential components of a modern democratic society, such as: 1) Individual freedom; 2) Freedom of movement and freedom of opinion; 3) Dynamic development of a society; 4) Competitiveness in the formation of authoritative political elite; 5) Openness, gradually becoming a feature of the national character; 6) Accessibility to higher professional education; 7) High political culture of a society.
At the same time, the formation of the list of possible cultural, ideological, political components of the "soft power" concept based on the American experience allows using this concept in the analysis of foreign policy of other countries, also because of the American model inclusivity. The purpose of this undergraduate work is to identify existing methods, techniques and resources of the "soft power" of the Spanish foreign policy doctrine and analyze their effectiveness at the present stage of development of Spain.
1.2. Spain in international relations
Before analyzing the methods and tools of the Spanish concept of the "soft power", it is necessary to characterize the current status of Spain in the modern system of international relations and to identify the distinctive features of Spanish foreign policy in different regions of the world.
Spain takes part in addressing many international problems within G7 and G20. The country is part of a large variety of international, regional and local associations, taking its place in the system of modern international relations.
Spain is a member of the United Nations. The country joined the United Nations in December 1955. Over the last 24 years, Spain was twice elected temporary member of the United Nations Security Council. In 2015-2016, the country again had an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to world peace and order, joining the top ten non-permanent members of the Security Council . In the context of the United Nations organizational structure, Spain is integrated within the most of paramount organs and committees of organizations, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (hereinafter - UNIDO) , United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (hereinafter - UNESCO) and the World Bank . These structures are designed to address the challenges in their respective fields, including support and acceleration of the economic, cultural and social development, contribution to increased literacy, combating poverty in the most backward regions of the world. Spain's accession to this vector of international cooperation demonstrates the country's commitment to human values in the context of contemporary problems and geographical "excesses", and also contributes to the country's prestige on the international stage and Spanish culture and language promotion around the world.
Regarding the language, it is important to mention that Spanish language is one of the six UN mandatory languages which reflects its importance and large spatial coverage. So, in 2012, the Spanish language was officially recognized as the world's second most common language after Chinese with 495 million native speakers around the world in such countries as Spain, Ibero-America (except Brazil), Equatorial Guinea. Thus, the Spanish language has surpassed English by the number of native speakers.
Traditionally Spain has been considered one of the leading European powers, participating in the formation of foreign policy of the largest associations, to which it belongs, particularly the European Union (hereinafter - EU) and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (hereinafter - NATO).
In 1985, Spain joined the European Union (EU). Formal membership in the continental association can be traced back to the 1st of January 1986. In 1991, Spain ratified the Schengen Agreement, in 1993 - Maastricht Treaty. The Kingdom is the member of the "Euro" zone since its inception.
Spain is one of the largest economies in the world, firmly holding its position in the top twenty ranking countries, the rating which is built on gross domestic product (GDP), the essential macroeconomic indicator. Spain was 14th on the list in 2014 . Due to the high level of economic development, Spain is a member of the "Group of Twenty» (G20) - an informal association of the most "strong" and "large" world powers in economic terms.
Spain is a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Energy Forum (IEF), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
From the perspective of local unions besides the foundational membership in European Union, the important direction of the application of efforts on the international stage for this country is a close involvement in the activity of The Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) – the union of 24 countries of Europe and Latin America relating to Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. There are also several observer states with special status representing the African continent. OEI was founded under the direct support of Spain which was, to some extent, the mastermind of establishing of this union.
The main purpose of this study is to find out the directions of partnership and cooperation of Spain with its partners in the frame of the international, multifaceted unions mentioned above and also from the perspective of the bilateral relations with particular countries, that may be directly related to the methods of "soft influence" or "soft power". At the same time, for purposes of a thorough and multifaceted analysis of the Spanish foreign policy practice on the above-noted subject, it is important to define necessary tools, at first.
1.3. The resources of "soft power" of Spain
Any concept of foreign policy being implemented by a country on the particular stage of its development asks for corresponding tools. To analyze the modern foreign policy of "soft power" of the Spanish state it is imperative to define the employed resources.
Considering the exertion of "soft power" in the political practice of Spain in detail we can find out and analyze a few of leading directions, where "soft" methods of influence are clearly traced, such as: 1) Culture; 2) Social benefits and achievements; 3) Value orientations of Spanish nation. They are all tightly interwinded completing and expanding each other. Highlighting particular resources and sources will help trace achievements in the specific vectors of the Spanish cultural diplomacy.
When considering any modern country having influence on the international stage in terms of culture and national charachter, the first resource that always comes to mind is a language. It is a completely successful and extremely effective, from the perspective of any concepts, tool of "soft" international policy. To distribute the Spanish language and to increase its popularity and demand in the world, the Cervantes Institute was established in 1991 under the authority of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Its main purpose is to teach the Spanish language to foreigners around the world and also drawing attention to the Spanish culture. 77 subdivisions of the Cervantes Institute take up residence on the 5 world continents. 130,000 students annually graduate from the institute.
The popularity of the Spanish language, which is the second prevalent language in the world since 2012, constantly increases. There is an opinion among philologists that the era of the Spanish language will certainly come after the era of the English language and already in 100 years the amount of Spanish speakers will be over 1 billion people. At the same time, it is fairly important that the Spanish language sparks the interest and desire of foreign people to speak it. According to the studies of philologists, the growing popularity of the Spanish language may cause the era of the English language to get replaced by the era of the domination of the Spanish language .
The growth of the popularity of the Spanish language allows Spain to discover and actively explore new market outlets of Spanish products including mass consumption products such as movies, popular music, and books. Spanish modern musicians increasingly gain popularity around the world. Even people who don't take interest in movies have heard about the actors like: A. Banderas, P. Cruz, J. Bardem and P. Almodóvar.
Latin America is contributing a lot in distributing of the Spanish language and the values of the Spanish culture. Some distinct representatives of Latin America have significantly succeeded in entering into the markets and the societies of the North American countries. According to the United States Census Bureau, at year-end 2015 the percent of immigrants from the Latin American countries to the U.S. was 20% of the total population of the country . Among the ordinary immigrants there are people who succeeded in sports, show business, movies. We can mention such "iconic" modern musicians as Shakira and C. Aguilera, R. Martin, famous and even outstanding actors and directors such as J. Lopez, S. Vergara, S. Hayek, E. Mendes, Z. Saldana, A. González Iñárritu and others.
The role of sports, especially football, is very high in this process. The interest in football is huge around the world. It is officially the most popular sport in the world. The International Federation of Association Football includes 209 national associations which is even bigger than the amount of the members of the United Nations . At the same time, sports and outstanding sport achievements are exceptional means of recognition in the whole world. The achievements of the Spanish athletes fascinate the people who even don't take interest in sports. The Spanish nation football team, which is also called as "Furia Roja", took the cake over the period of the 3 world class tournaments (the European Football Championships in 2008 and 2012, and the World Football Cup in 2010). After establishing the annual football award the FIFA Ballon d'Or in 2010, the players of the leading Spanish football clubs Barcelona and Real – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, respectively, were equally granted the price. The famous Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal has won Roland Garros, one of the main tennis tournaments, 9 times throughout his career.
Another great part of the Spanish resource base of "soft power" is the Spanish political culture and social model or, more precisely, the Spanish way and style of life. Being modern and developed, whether in terms of economy or in terms of civil society institutions, and also in a cultural aspect Spain looks lovable in the eyes of the residents of the other continents. We may say that the Spanish brand has recently come around – "life style" traditionally based on the fundamental human rights and the attempts to reach the highest measures in terms of social equality. "Spain is trying to offer this life style – without poverty, corruption, illiteracy, sex discrimination and ecological problems" . At the same time, the distribution of common European and human values brings its own additional advantages to this European country. Despite of the unemployment rate being 25% , new immigrants from different countries, mostly from Latin America, come to Spain annually. At year-end 2013, over 280 thousand of immigrants entered Spain. There were 32 thousand of Spanish speakers among them, mostly from the Latin American countries .
Tourism plays a very important role in promoting the Spanish reputation. The development of tourism helps not only the economy bring in investments and contribute for creating new jobs, but it also lets people around the world make the acquaintance of this wonderful country, its culture, traditions, cuisine, and touch the legacy and exuberance handed over to Spain by the ancestors. According to the Statistic service in the field of tourism there have been 54.4 million of tourists visiting Spain for the first 9 months of 2015. The bulk of them came from Britain, France, Germany and the U.S.
On one hand, Spain is in chime with its neighbors and EU friends representing the European democratic values as one of the best and lovable today. On another hand, the Kingdom, by virtue of its own cultural and national charterer, attractiveness to less developed countries and societies, contributes even more for the popularity of such a brand as "European Democracy"/ "European Ideology" promoting the freedom of individual, human values, tolerance, public welfare and prosperity.
Therefore, the Spanish "soft power" is the effect of the influence of the Spanish culture and ideology on the universal world order. That effect allows Spain to get integrated into the modern, dynamic world, to influence on it, and to determine the vector of its further development.
