Source text - Portuguese Situated along the western coast of southern Africa and sandwiched between the Gulf of Guinea system
in the north and the Agulhas Current in the south, the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem (BCLME)
spans some 30 degrees of latitude. The Benguela Current is in reality a complex system of water movements
in the area between the coast and the Greenwich meridian (0 degrees longitude), with deeper waters often
moving in the opposite direction to currents at the surface. The Benguela Current is one of the four major
current systems in the World that lie at the eastern boundaries of the oceans; the others being the
Humboldt Current (off Peru and Chile), the California Current and the Canary Current (of north-western Africa).

O Ecossistema Marítimo Alargado da Corrente de Benguela (EMACB) situa-se ao longo da costa oeste de África austral numa faixa delimitada pelo sistema do Golfo da Guiné ao norte e a Corrente de Agulhas ao sul, atravessando cerca de 30º de latitude. A Corrente de Benguela é na realidade um sistema complexo de circulação de águas entre a costa e o meridiano de Greenwich (0 º longitude) cujas águas profundas se movimentam com frequência na direcção inversa à das águas à superfície.
