I have seen the English version criticized in another forum for its use of "Euro-English" rather than native English... the use of the incorrect word "competences," for example will grate on the ears of any native English speaker who is not acclimatized to corporate Euro-English jargon.

How are the other language versions?

I was acclimatised to these HR expressions the best part of 15 years ago in the UK and they are now firmly established. They were designed and intended to distinguish between natural abilities and acquired techniques. They may not be familiar in the "New World" but as Myriam is this side of the pond I would suggest the use of them would be to her advantage.

European CV is a general format Jan 14, 2004

The European CV format is a very generalised type of CV which looks remarkably similar to the old-style British, South African and Australian CV. It lists things which would be deemed superfluous on an American style CV. That said, the European CV is not a bad CV format IMHO.

Customise your CV for either freelancing of jobseeking Jan 14, 2004

Will you be using your CV for jobseeking, for freelance work canvassing or for general professional identification. A potential employer might be interested in your job history and education, whereas a potential freelance client may be more interested in your skills and previous experience.

Translation CV - revisited Jan 14, 2004

Thank you all for all your comments and insights.

I was mainly asking because I have been told that to get into literary translation it might be better to present oneself to potential publishers with a "translation CV" and I thought there might be a template out there.

My current CV has detailed education history (very relevant because I have a linguistic background) and various professional experience focusing on my translation work.

It seems I was misled

My current CV has detailed education history (very relevant because I have a linguistic background) and various professional experience focusing on my translation work.

It seems I was misled to think that there might be a template more specific to a CV for translation.

Kind regards
Myriam
