As i am getting more and more very specific and technical texts to translate, my little access database with technical expressions is not cutting it any more. I am looking for a database, where i can build my vocabulary sheets myself, sorted after fields and projects. For example sort into technic....psychology....and under that technik-hydraulics, electric....psychology-historical, diagnostical etc....you get the idea. Anything you can recommend? Any advice is gretly apprecia... This depends entirely on how you translate. If you use a CAT, it's usually best to use the terminology software that comes with it. The integration usually compensates for any shortcomings it might have. For instance, there are many things that are badly broken in MultiTerm, but the fact tha I can type "Pr" and paste "Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats" into my text makes all those flaws secondary. If you don't use a CAT, consider using one. Think about why you aren't using one and whether coming up with an elaborate system for terminology is worth it in this situation. If you really want to have some sort of terminology system outside of a CAT tool, I don't think there is too much wrong with using Excel sheets and converting them to tab delimited txt files in order to search them with Xbench. I don't think there is any point in converting all your data to the proprietary format of some random lookup tool that you'll eventually abandon anyway. ▲ Collapse | | | Sigrid Andersen Local time: 15:39 Member (2011) Danish to German + ...
