Hello everyone!

I would like to work as a translator in the comic/manga industry, but I don't know how to get started. I don't even know where to send my CV. I've been searching over the internet but I couldn't find a post/blog/article that could help me.
If there's anyone in this platform that could give me some advice I will appreciate it A LOT.

Thanks beforehand! =)

Maybe, you could try to contact translation agencies in Japan (by using English of course), maybe they would need translation talents for the South-American market.

More specifics Sep 6, 2019

a) Finished localization with retouching or just translation?

b) Contacting the Author, the Publisher, or a mere middleman?

c) And how do they really know (1) about you, (2) your skills, and (3) your intentions, let alone (4) your rates and terms?

And so on...

For a start, an online/offline portfolio/page showing your best pieces of work could nicely do.

Good luck

For starters Sep 7, 2019

You could definitely start by writing something about you in the about you section which is completely empty till now. No one knows your background, your skills, your competences, your specialisation. You registered on Proz so agencies and clients find you but they cannot do this if you leave that area completely empty.

As Josephine says, you presumably registered here to find clients and get started. It is one of the most obvious places to start as it's the biggest meeting place for freelance translators and clients. The site is also packed with practical advice on getting started. All you need to do is start using it to its full extent.

Once you have a completed profile you'll be able to be found. If clients like what they see, they'll contact you. You could also receive instant notification of jobs that match your skills and abilities.

First step should be to peruse the Site Guidance Centre and attend the free "Meeting Clients" webinar. Find out why the directory is so important and how to make yourself as visible as possible. Make sure you visit the Scam Centre and learn about risk management before accepting your first job. Not everyone is out to help newbies, unfortunately .

THANK YOU! Sep 24, 2019

Thanks to everyone!
This information you all gave me helps me a lot, I'll take everything into consideration.

And I'm sorry for my ignorance 🙏 I still don't get used to this website, therefore I don't quite know how to use it as I should.
I'll try the webinar, and I'll visit the Scam Center as well!
After that I'll make a portfolio as good as I can.

Thanks again!
Hope you all have a lovely week. 😊

I found this thread... Nov 25, 2019

...doing research on something else, but the answer is: if you want to translate comics and manga, get in touch with publishers of comics and manga. It's that simple

Do not wait by the phone for someone to magically call you! As others have said, it's useful to have a good profile, sure. But for direct clients, it's best to go get them yourself.
