Here is a very good website with advice on writing a resumé/curriculum vitae. Every one of the links is worth reading, but translators might want to pay special attention to the page What Free Agents Need. As they point out, as freelancers, we are often not applying for a job, but marketing our services to clients. In other words, we are not trying to get hired for a job, but to be chosen as one of a company\'s service providers. This link shows how to tailor a resumé to that objective.
Another link especially worth checking is International Resumé Choices, which explains the difference between a resumé and a curriculum vitae, and tells when to use each one. As translators marketing our services globally, we may want to prepare both a resumé and a curriculum vitae, and use them appropriately depending on where the potential client is located.
