For five days of conference interpreting, this UK-outsourcer, also a champion of posting "peanuts translation" offers, who obviously does not know what "consecutive interpreting (the kingpin of interpreting) entails, is willing to pay between £120-150 per day.

Of course, this experienced conference interpreter "just" has to interpret "consecutively" (the most diffult type of interpreting). I wonder if any serious conference interpreter will "prostitute" him/herself to work for such menial rates?
Experienced conference interpreters ask and get about £550-650 per day, which is what this
outsourcer will probably ask his client.

If one so-called, self-annointed, overnight interpreter is willing to accept their offer, calculate for yourself what their profit will be. This interpreter will work for peanuts, they will earn double.

I interpreted such a meeting of oil execs a couple of years ago and got £400/day and per diems. A "slight" difference with the £150/day and my outsourcer earned a profit on my work.

A lot has been written about low rates for translation, but is interpreting going the same way, then it is time to consider leaving the language industry and do something else?
AFAIK (and interpreters who take their profession seriously) conference interpreting is a prestigious profession and should be awarded accordingly.
