Quote

"in the seemingly never ending litany of stupid business phrases with little or no actual meaning, now comes what I believe could be the most irritating of all — 'reaching out’' "

Low-hanging fruit Apr 23, 2021

So I started reading the article. After two typos, I gave up.

How could she possibly hope to be taken seriously?

Alternatively, you can Apr 23, 2021

Reach out and touch base*

*(to paraphrase that Depeche Mode lyrics, "Reach out and touch faith" in Personal Jesus)

Almost Apr 23, 2021

Close, but I think the current fashion of overusing and misusing 'myself' as a subject is more irritating.

That's just the opinion of myself, though!

Thanks Jean Apr 23, 2021

For reminding us of this. Personal. Jesus. Just two apparently disconnected words to make up a wonderfully clangy song.

Thanks a lot!!!!! I had no idea the DMode thing was a remake. Wonderful stuff, both of them. Cash was a tortured man, and Marilyn too. But I think I prefer Johnny's grittiness.

Ah, the lure of the lyrics...

Edited to add yet another version, this time by Def Leppard (had missed this one),

Well... Apr 23, 2021

"Reaching out" seems to be used a lot in the US seemingly as an accepted term, but she uses "anymore" as one word in UK English, for goodness sake, so you really can't take her seriously.

I get it, Rachel, I do, but for Gods sake please do something about that apostropheless "goodness" right away before we get a Level 5 or worse. Oh bugger, I see I did it my'self ...
