Yes, probably Dec 12, 2019

I live in a semi-rural area, a 40-minute drive from the city. If I wasn’t freelancing and working from home, I’d probably prefer to relocate to somewhere near wherever I was working, rather than commute. However, this is all merely hypothetical and I don’t see that scenario materialising for the foreseeable future.

I live in Paris so there are plenty of opportunities.

We live very centrally here with a bus stop just around the corner. But before I started freelancing, I had to drive 70km one way to work everyday because my wife worked near to where we live. But since I have been working at home, it is fantastic!

Ideally, but not necessarily Dec 12, 2019

It depends a lot what job I was doing.
That was my big problem before I started freelancing - I live on a peninsula, 50 km from the nearest big town, and there are not a lot of jobs in the bay!

I did several local jobs that I was not well qualified for, and some still involved a lot of transport.
I commuted when I worked in house with a translation agency. At first I had a bus trip of 75-80 minutes each way, and there was only one bus an hour, so it was crowded and a nu

I commuted when I worked in house with a translation agency. At first I had a bus trip of 75-80 minutes each way, and there was only one bus an hour, so it was crowded and a nuisance if I missed it! Luckily my husband could sometimes drive me part of the way, as he started along the same route, but worked in a different town. Later, our office moved from the centre of town, which allowed me to drive myself. It was still 50 kilometres, but more flexible, and it saved me nearly an hour's transport time each day.

Lots of people live with that kind of commuting in the big cities, but it is exhausting and NOT climate-friendly!

Luckily I can just retire when I have had enough of freelancing, so the question will not arise for me.

I had to live somewhere else when I worked in-house in Brussels from 1986 till 2006. After that, I freelanced there for 10 years with very frequent visits to Lisbon and then my mother’s age and the fact that I got tired of airports and flights made me move back to my home city: beautiful Lisbon.

In such a big city, there are plenty of opportunities, so there'd be no need to move somewhere else..

I had to Dec 13, 2019

I had to live in four different towns before I became a freelancer, three of which against my will. I'll never do that again. I do want to live somewhere else, but somewhere of my choice, not for professional reasons.
