Where do I find detailed information on how to use Trados for Framemaker documents?

Those documents have the extensions .fm and .book.

Trados help does not really help with this. It seems to work with .mif files. Can I convert my .fm files to .mif files, translate them with Trados, and then convert them back to .fm files without losing formatting information?

Trados mentions the S-Tagger tool, however my version 5.0 does not seem to contain that one.

Also I would use WordFast instead of Trados if necessary. However WordFast requires .mif files and tagging as well.

Any help appreciated

Hallo Gunter,

http://www.frame-user.de/ (deutsch)

http://www.microtype.com/ (englisch)

Zu WordFast kann ich leider keine Angaben machen.

Good Luck

Just open the file in FrameMaker and choose Save as... and select the extension mif. That\'s it.

In case of any doubt, don\'t hesitate to ask me.

Thank you

Andreia

MIF, as stated above.

Then - depending on TRADOS version you have - you need to convert the MIF to RTF/TXT files.

Using TRADOS 3.0 there is a special tool to do this. As I do not use TRADOS 3.0 anymore, I do not remember the name of it - but it can be easily found within TRADOS applications. After starting this tool refer to its help files. You can only choose one file for converting at the time.

Using TRADOS 5.0 and 5.5 you need to start the WorkSpace, create a new Project, make the proper settings.

Creating projects is described in the help - in case of trobles contact me, then I can provide you detailed information - but in German...

One more question Oct 21, 2002

In case of any doubt, don\'t hesitate to ask me.

Thank you, Andreia

I have another question, only today since the project has been delayed:

I can convert a .fm file to a .mif file, no problem. However, my customer wants a translated .fm file, not a .mif file.

When I try to save .mif file as .fm file, Framemaker refuses to so that. Is there any work-around.

Thanks

Günter
