Estou confusa com o termo acima. Ele aparece em um Certificado da University of Hyderabad - Índia, conforme abaixo:

This is to certify that xxx having completed the prescribed courses and having submitted a dissertation in the School of Physics in the year xxx has been admitted to the degree of Master of Philosofy - Subject: Physics - Division: First with Distinction.

Na internet as opiniões estão divididas, alguns dizem que significa que ainda vai fazer o curso de Mestrado, outros que recebeu o grau de Mestre.

Como o texto envolve a entrega de uma tese, minha sugestão é que o mestrado foi concluído.

Encontrei um documento de uma Universidade do Reino Unido, que confere a graduação da mesma forma (admitted to the degree of...), não sei se ajuda pois o seu caso é de uma Universidade na Índia, mas segue a referência:

Explanation:
Gracinda, considerando o contexto (dissertação já entregue e matérias já cumpridas) e a distinção concedida, para mim está claro que os requisitos já foram cumpridos e o certificado atesta que o portador detém o título de mestre. Até porque "admitted" se refere ao "degree", e não que a pessoa foi "admitted" para o curso.

A formulação realmente pode soar estranha para ocidentais, mas entendo que é por se tratar de uma universidade na Índia, onde o idioma tem características muito próprias.

It's an Anglo way of saying what Americans mean by Awarded the degree. Americans tend to think of a degree as a thing, where everyone else thinks of it as a level.
