Bacini areici, o bacini tipici delle zone aride, con reticolo pochissimo sviluppato o addirittura assente, che si riattiva solo in occasione di rare precipitazioni. I corsi d'acqua hanno spesso alveo asciutto; uadi nel nord Africa è il nome che si dà a queste incisioni che sono l'impronta dello scorrere di acque, le quali normalmente sono assenti (e quindi sono visibili solo i letti incisi e asciutti, che si estendono in reticoli ciechi anche per chilometri), in quanto si infiltrano nella sabbia e nel detrito o rapidamente evaporano. Queste situazioni sono osservabili nei grandi deserti caldi come il Sahara, il deserto arabico o quello australiano.
