The USD fell against most majors yesterday after Fed. Chairman Bernanke left Interest Rates unchanged at 0% - 0.25%. The revelation came as the Fed. Reserve bank announced it would be purchasing bonds at $300B throughout the next six months in order to revive the economy. In addition, the Bank will be buying S750B in Mortgage Backed Securities. The reaction was instant and Stocks in the US went up by 2%.
The EUR/USD jumped from 1.31 to over 1.35 – the highest level since January. The EUR strengthened as Investors risk-taking appetite returned, subsequent to the Fed. Reserve Bank stating it would take the necessary precautions to handle the economic crisis. After the pair broke the resistance point the euro fell into an overly bought point – stagnating in the region of 1.30-1.35.
The GBP rose to 1.4333 and fell back down to 1.42 this came post the complications in difficulty at breaking past the resistance point. The technical indicators are signaling that the Greenback in the future could weaken due to the chance of deflation and global economy shrinking.
Earlier yesterday the US announced its CPI for the month of February 0.4% which was more that the expected of 0.3% in the previous month. In Britain, the unemployment rate was worse than expected – standing at 6.5%
Last night the Bank of Japan left the interest rate without change at the level of 0.1%. The bank also noted that the financial sector in the country is at a bad momentum. In addition, the bank announced its intentions to increase buying federal bonds to $18.3B which they announced earlier.

Dieses wurde offenbar nachdem die US-Notenbank Fed verkündete, dass sie in den kommenden 6 Monaten Staatsanleihen im Wert von 300 Mrd. US $ übernehmen wird, um die Konjunktur zu stützen. Most fuel cell power systems comprise a number of components:
• Unit cells, in which the electrochemical reactions take place;
• Stacks, in which individual cells are modularly combined by electrically connecting the cells to form units with the desired output capacity;
• Balance of plant which comprises components that provide feed stream conditioning (including a fuel processor if needed), thermal management, and electric power conditioning among other ancillary and interface functions.

A variety of fuel cells are in different stages of development. The most common classification of fuel cells is by the type of electrolyte used in the cells and includes: polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEMFC); alkaline fuel cell (AFC); phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC); molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC), and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Broadly, the choice of electrolyte dictates the operating temperature range of the fuel cell. The operating temperature and useful life of a fuel cell dictate the physicochemical and thermomechanical properties of materials used in the cell components (i.e., electrodes, electrolyte, interconnect, current collector, etc.). Aqueous electrolytes are limited to temperatures of about 200 °C or lower because of their high vapour pressure and rapid degradation at higher temperatures. The operating temperature also plays an important role in dictating the degree of fuel processing required. In low-temperature fuel cells, all the fuel must be converted to hydrogen prior to entering the fuel cell. In addition, the anode catalyst in low temperature fuel cells (mainly platinum) is strongly poisoned by CO. In high-temperature fuel cells, carbon monoxide (CO) and even methane (CH4) can be internally converted to hydrogen or even directly oxidized electrochemically. Table 1.1 provides an overview of the key characteristics of the main fuel cell types.
The fuel cell description in this section is based on the PEMFC technology which is used in HYCHAIN MINITRANS project. Nevertheless, the different type of fuel cell is presented at the end of this section.
Unit Cell principle
Unit cells form the core of a fuel cell. These devices convert the chemical energy contained in a fuel electrochemically into electrical energy. The basic physical structure, or building block, of a fuel cell consists of an electrolyte layer in contact with an anode and a cathode on either side. The unit cell consists in a Membrane Electrode Assembly. A schematic representation of a unit cell with the reactant/product gases and the ion conduction flow directions through the cell is shown in Figure 1.3a. Hydrogen oxidation and oxygen oxidation occurs at the electrode | electrolyte interface. Protons and electrons migration occurs through respectively the electrolyte and external circuit. Contrary to battery, the fuel cell continuously provides electricity if hydrogen and oxygen are fed respectively at the anode and cathode. Note that heat is also produced.
The figure 1.4 presents classical elements of unit cell elements of PEMFC including the membrane and electrodes. The membrane is sandwiched between two electrodes. Note that Electrodes are made of an Active Layer in contact with the electrolyte and a Gas Diffusion Layer close to the Gas Channel.
Finally, the Membrane and Electrodes Assembly is surrounded between to bipolar plate to form a unit cell. Bipolar plates ensure the electronic current collecting between adjacent cells and the hydrogen and oxygen gas feeding.
In a typical fuel cell, fuel (generally Hydrogen) is fed continuously to the anode (negative electrode) and an oxidant (often oxygen from air) is fed continuously to the cathode (positive electrode). The electrochemical reactions take place at the electrodes to produce an ionic current through the electrolyte, while driving a complementary electronic current that performs work on the load. Although a fuel cell is similar to a typical battery in many ways, it differs in several respects. The battery is an energy storage device in which all the energy available is stored within the battery itself (at least the reductant). The battery will cease to produce electrical energy when the chemical reactants are consumed (i.e., discharged). A fuel cell, on the other hand, is an energy conversion device to which fuel and oxidant are supplied continuously. In principle, the fuel cell produces power for as long as fuel is supplied.

Seaguard 55 ultrafiltration (UF) modules offer optimum pretreatment for seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) systems by protecting the reverse osmosis membranes from plugging with fine silt and biofouling.

The Seaguard 55 modules know an inside-out flow configuration and operate in dead-end, thereby significantly reducing the energy consumption.
The solids that are retained on the membrane surface are washed away periodically by means of a permeate backwash not involving any chemicals.
Adsorbed substances can be removed by an automatically performed 'in situ' chemically enhanced backwash restoring the membrane to its original, clean state.

Seaguard 55 features hollow fiber UF membranes that provide a highly effective single barrier to keep RO membranes free from fouling.

The specialized membrane geometry and characteristics of Seaguard 55 ensure that the membranes produce the highest quality SWRO feed water.
Seaguard 55 operates at low pressure with very low energy consumption while achieving a high output of clean water.
Moreover, the system can be controlled by either frequency controlled pumps or, if pressure is available, by means of flow control valves.
In this case, there is no need for re-pumping and the feed pump section can be completely omitted.
Also, while offering a filtration grade that is two orders of magnitude smaller than sand filters, the use of coagulant can be reduced or even completely eliminated (depending on water quality), providing benefits in operating costs and sludge disposal.

Mit einer Membranoberfläche von 55 m2 enthält das Seaguard 55 eine UF-Membran für die SWRO-Vorbehandlung der neuen Generation, die über alle Eigenschaften der bewährten Membrantechnik von Pentair X-Flow verfügt.
Das Seaguard 55 verfügt über Hohlfaser-UF-Membranen, die eine hoch effektive Einzelbarriere bieten, um die RO-Membranen frei von Fouling zu halten.
Es entfernt Feinschlamm und Trübung vollständig und hält Mikroorganismen ab, die andernfalls mit den RO-Membranen in Kontakt kommen und darauf wachsen würden.
Dank der speziellen Membrangeometrie und der Eigenschaften des Seaguard 55 liefern die Membranen das hochwertigste SWRO-Zulaufwasser.
Das Seaguard 55 wirkt bei Niederdruck mit sehr niedrigem Energieverbrauch, bei gleichzeitiger hoher Ausgabe von sauberem Wasser.
Außerdem kann das System entweder über frequenzgeregelte Pumpen geregelt werden oder, wenn Druck verfügbar ist, über Drosselventile.
In diesem Fall ist kein Nachpumpen erforderlich und der Speisepumpenabschnitt kann vollständig ausgelassen werden.
Es bietet einen Filtrationsgrad, der zwei Größenordnungen kleiner als bei Sandfiltern ist, weshalb der Einsatz von Flockungsmittel verringert oder dieses sogar vollständig weggelassen werden kann (je nach Wasserqualität), wodurch Betriebskosten und Kosten für Klärschlammentsorgung gesenkt werden.
In einem 9"-GRP-Membrangehäuse können bis zu vier Seaguard 55-Einsätze montiert werden.
Dadurch wird ein Einsatz bei einem Maximalbetriebsdruck von 8 bar bei 40 °C möglich und somit eine Reihenbauweise mit direkter Einspeisung in SWRO-Hochdruckpumpen (direkte Kupplung).
Die Bauweise bietet viele Vorteile während des gesamten Projekt-Lebenszyklus: von Anlagen-Layout und Planung bis zu Betrieb und Wartung.

Source text - English 1.3 Outline of the xxxxxxxx Project
The xxxxxxx Pipelines (xxx) project consists of two (2) 48-inch diameter submarine pipelines which cross the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany. Each pipeline is approximately 1220 km in length.
The landfalls for the pipelines are located in the vicinity of Vyborg, North of St. Petersburg, Russia and Greifswald in Northern Germany.
The pipelines pass through both the territorial waters and the economic exclusion zones (EEZ) of Russia and Germany, and through the territorial waters only of Finland, Sweden and Denmark.
The pipelines are laid in pre-dredged trenches in certain specific areas along the route for stability purposes. These are the landfall and nearshore areas in shallow water where wave and current loads on the pipelines are highest.
The pipelines run approximately parallel to each other along the seabed with a typical separation distance of between 50m and 100m. However, in the near shore areas adjacent to the landfalls the pipelines are much closer together (i.e. 6m separation) as they are to be installed in a single trench in order to minimize the amount of pre-lay dredging.
The pipelines will be fabricated from longitudinally welded carbon steel linepipe with a wall thickness that varies from 41.0mm to 26.8mm. The wall thickness at the crossing location is 26.8mm. The steel linepipe will be coated with a 4.2mm thick polyethylene coating for anti-corrosion protection and with a 100mm thick concrete coating for both protection and stability purposes. Sacrificial anodes will also be installed at regular intervals along the entire length of the pipelines to prevent corrosion of the steel in case of coating damage.
The general route of the pipelines in the German sector is illustrated in Figure 2.3.1.
1.4 Geographical Location of the proposed Crossings
The routes of the xxxx cables and the Nord Stream pipelines cross in the vicinity of the mouth of the Greifswalder Bodder, close to the German coast.
xxxxxhas identified two potential crossing points where the xxxxx pipelines and the xxxx cables may cross.
The crossing points are defined using the xxxx “kilometer postings” (KPs) as a reference point, where KP 0 is the landfall in Russia and KP 1220 is the landfall in Germany.
The crossing points are defined in Table 1.2 below and the approximate position is illustrated in Figure 1.2 and Figure 1.3.

Die Gasleitungen verlaufen im Meeresboden ungefähr parallel, mit einer typischen Trennungsdistanz von 50m bis 100m. In Nearshore-Gebieten, angrenzend zum Landfall, sind die Gasleitungen aber viel näher zusammen (d.h. 6m Trennung), da sie in einem einzigen gespülten Graben installiert werden müssen, um den Baggeraufwand für das Vorverlegen zu minimieren.
Die Gasleitungen sind aus längsgeschweißtem Karbon-Stahlrohr mit einer Wanddicke zwischen 41,0mm und 26,8mm gefertigt. Die Wanddicke an der Kreuzungsposition beträgt 26,8 mm. Das Stahlrohr wird zum Schutz vor Korrosion mit einer 4,2 mm dicken Polyethylen-Schicht beschichtet und mit einem 100 mm dicken Zementmantel zum Schutz und für Stabilitätszwecke ausgestattet. Es werden auch entlang der gesamten Länge der Gasleitungen in regelmäßigen Abständen Opferanoden installiert, um Korrosion des Stahls aufgrund einer Beschädigung der Beschichtung zu vermeiden.
Die Haupt-Trasse der Gasleitungen im deutschen Sektor wird in Bild 2.3.1. dargestellt.
1.4 Geografische Lage der vorgesehenen Kreuzungen
Die Trassen der Kabel von xxxx und der Gasleitungen von Nord Stream kreuzen sich in der Nähe des Greifswalder Boddens, nahe der deutschen Küste.
xxx hat zwei potenzielle Kreuzungspunkte für die xxxx-Gasleitungen und die xxx-Hochspannungskabel ermittelt.
Die Kreuzungspunkte werden unter Verwendung der xxxx-"Kilometer-Posten" (KPs) als Referenzpunkte festgelegt, mit KP 0 als Landfall in Russland und KP 1220 als Landfall in Deutschland.
Die Kreuzungspunkte sind unten in Tabelle 1.2 angegeben und die ungefähre Position wird in Bild 1.2 und Bild 1.3 dargestellt.
