Field of the Invention
This invention is related to the use of the combination of teriflunomide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and interferon beta for treating multiple sclerosis.
Background of the Invention
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a debilitating, inflammatory, neurological illness characterized by demyelination of the central nervous system. The disease primarily affects young adults with a higher incidence in females. Symptoms of the disease include fatigue, numbness, tremor, tingling, dysesthesias, visual disturbances, dizziness, cognitive impairment, urologic dysfunction, decreased mobility, and depression. Four types classify the clinical patterns of the disease: relapsing-remitting, secondary progressive, primary-progressive and progressive-relapsing (S.L. Hauser and D.E. Goodkin, Multiple Sclerosis and Other Demyelinating Diseases in Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine 14th Edition, vol. 2, Mc Graw-Hill, 1998, pp. 2409-2419).
The exact etiology of MS is unknown; however, it is strongly suspected that the demyelination characteristic of the disease is the result of an autoimmune response perhaps triggered by an environmental insult, e.g. a viral infection. Specifically, it is hypothesized that MS is caused by a T-cell-mediated, autoimmune inflammatory reaction. The autoimmune basis is strongly supported by the fact that antibodies specific to myelin basic protein (MBP) have been found in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid of MS patients and these antibodies along with T-cells that are reactive to MBP and other myelin proteolipids increase with disease activity. Furthermore, at the cellular level it is speculated that T-cell proliferation and other cellular events, such as activation of B cells and macrophages and secretion of cytokines accompanied by a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier can cause destruction of myelin and oligodendrocytes. Progressive MS (primary and secondary) may be based on a neurodegenerative process occurring with demyelination.
The use of (Z)-2-cyano-3-hydroxy-but-2-enoic acid-(4’-trifluoromethylphenyl)-amide (also known as teriflunomide, Formula I) for treating multiple sclerosis has been disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 6,794,410. It is also disclosed therein that teriflunomide could possibly combine with another compound known to be effective for treating multiple sclerosis to treat the disease. However, no clinical result has been reported to prove the efficacy and safety of the combination

Source text - English GE Gas Turbine Technology to Help Meet Egypt’s Growing Power Demand
El Kureimat Power Plant Expansion to Feature Two GE Frame 9FAs
CAIRO, Egypt--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE Energy (NYSE: GE) gas turbine technology has been selected to help meet Egypt’s energy demand, which is growing at an annual rate of 7 percent.
Under a contract valued at more than US$111 million, GE and its partner Techint Cimi Montubi SpA (TCM) will supply two Frame 9FA e gas turbine-generators, auxiliary equipment and training services to the Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company, which is owned by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company.
The machines will be used for an expansion of the El Kureimat Power Plant, located about 90 kilometers south of Cairo. In combined-cycle operation, the new El Kureimat III plant will add 750 megawatts of power to Egypt’s electricity grid.
“In Egypt and across Northern Africa, economic growth is driving the need for increased power capacity,” said Joseph Anis, GE Energy Region Executive, Middle East. “The region’s proven reserves of fossil fuels and natural gas will complement the growth of conventional power generation, such as gas turbine power plants.
“GE’s F technology is an excellent fit in this emerging scenario,” he added. “Our F-class machines have demonstrated high efficiency and availability in more than 20 million hours of commercial service worldwide.”
GE technology already is well established in Egypt. An existing 750-megawatt combined-cycle plant in Cairo North II also features two Frame 9FA e gas turbines, and two GE 650-megawatt steam turbines have been operating at the El Kureimat site since 1997.
In addition to the two 9FA e gas turbine-generators for the new plant expansion, GE and TCM will also supply additional equipment for simple and combined cycle operation, along with training services. The gas turbines will be site-rated at 256 megawatts each, with NOx emissions limited to 25 ppm. Natural gas will be the primary fuel, with solar oil as a back up.
The gas turbines will be manufactured at GE’s gas turbine facility in Greenville, S.C., and the generators will be built in Schenectady, N.Y. The equipment will be shipped in October and November of 2007, with commercial operation expected by October of 2008.
GE’s consortium partner for the El Kureimat Power Plant expansion is Techint Cimi Montubi SpA, of Italy. The project is being financed by the African Development Bank, based in Tunisia.

وفي هذا الإطار، صرح السيد/ جوزيف أنيس، المسئول التنفيذي الإقليمي لشركة جنرال إليكتريك للطاقة بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط، قائلاً: "يدفع النمو الاقتصادي الذي تشهده مصر وبلدان شمال إفريقيا إلى زيادة سعة الطاقة. وتشجع الاحتياطات المؤكدة في المنطقة من الوقود الأحفوري والغاز الطبيعي على استكمال مشروعات توليد الطاقة التقليدية من قبيل محطات الطاقة التي تعمل بالتوربين الغازي".
وأضاف قائلاً: "كما تعد التقنية المقدمة من شركة جنرال إليكتريك من طراز إف الاختيار الأمثل والمناسب لخطة التوسع هذه الآخذة في الظهور، خاصة وأن ماكينات الشركة من طراز إف قد أثبتت كفاءة وإتاحة عالية في أكثر من 20 مليون ساعة من الخدمات التجارية على مستوى العالم".
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن التقنية المقدمة من جنرال إليكتريك تعد واحدة من التقنيات الراسخة بالفعل في مصر. كما تستخدم محطة طاقة حالية قائمة على التوليد المختلط بقدرة 750 ميجاوات في شمال القاهرة للمرحلة الثانية مولدي توربين يعملان بالغاز من طراز فريم ناين إف أيه إي، ويتم تشغيل مولدي توربين يعملان بالبخار بقدرة 650 ميجاوات من شركة جنرال إليكتريك في موقع الكريمات منذ عام 1997.
علاوة على مولدي التوربين العاملين بالغاز من طراز ناين إف أيه أيه المستخدمين في مشروع توسعة المحطة الجديدة، ستعمل جنرال إليكتريك مع شركة تكينت سيمي مونتوبي (تي سي إم) على توفير معدات إضافية لعمليات التشغيل البسيطة والمختلطة، فضلاً عن توفير خدمات تدريبية. وسيعمل كل من مولدي التوربين العاملين بالغاز بقدرة 256 ميجاوات في الموقع مع حصر انبعاثات أكسيد النتروجين بحيث لا تتعدى 25 جزءًا في المليون. وسيتم الاعتماد على الغاز الطبيعي بوصفه الوقود الأساسي، إلى جانب السولار كوقود احتياطي.

INTRODUCTION
This document contains three sections:
The first section includes important definitions used by all ABET commissions.
Definitions
While ABET recognizes and supports the prerogative of institutions to adopt and use the terminology of
their choice, it is necessary for ABET volunteers and staff to have a consistent understanding of
terminology. With that purpose in mind, the Commissions will use the following basic definitions:
Program Educational Objectives – Program educational objectives are broad statements that
describe what graduates are expected to attain within a few years of graduation. Program
educational objectives are based on the needs of the program’s constituencies.
Student Outcomes – Student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able
to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that
students acquire as they progress through the program.
Assessment – Assessment is one or more processes that identify, collect, and prepare data to
evaluate the attainment of student outcomes and program educational objectives. Effective
assessment uses relevant direct, indirect, quantitative and qualitative measures as appropriate to
the outcome or objective being measured. Appropriate sampling methods may be used as part of
an assessment process.
Evaluation – Evaluation is one or more processes for interpreting the data and evidence
accumulated through assessment processes. Evaluation determines the extent to which student
outcomes and program educational objectives are being attained. Evaluation results in decisions
and actions regarding program improvement.
The criteria for accreditation are in two sections
General Criteria – General Criteria apply to all programs accredited by an ABET commission. Each
program accredited by an ABET commission must satisfy every Criterion that is in the General Criteria
for that commission.
Program Criteria – The Program Criteria provide discipline-specific accreditation criteria. Programs
must show that they satisfy all of the specific Program Criteria implied by the program title. Any
overlapping requirements need be satisfied only once.

التقويم – التقويم عبارة عن عملية أو أكثر من شأنها تفسير البيانات والأدلة المتراكمة خلال عملية التقييم، وهو يساعد على الوقوف على مدى إنجاز نتائج الطلبة وأهداف البرنامج التعليمية. ويتم اتخاذ القرارات والإجراءات بخصوص تحسين البرنامج على أساس التقويم.
معايير الاعتماد منقسمة إلى قسمين
المعايير العامة – تنطبق المعايير العامة على كافة البرامج المعتمدة من قبل إحدى لجان ABET. ويجب أن يفي كل برنامج معتمد من قبل أية لجنة من لجان ABET بكافة المعايير الواردة في قسم المعايير العامة لهذه اللجنة.
