Laura awakened from a fitful sleep, caused by the recurring nightmares. The most terrifying of the nightmares took place in a five-star hotel. No matter what Laura did, she could not find her way back to her room on the fifteenth floor. She was situated on the first floor and stood in front of the bank of three elevators. Each elevator went to different floors, but they were not marked. She got on one of the elevators, which took her to the fourteenth floor. When she alighted from the elevator she was confronted with rows and rows of rooms. Laura searched hopelessly for the stairs, but could not find them. She waited again for the elevator and descended again to the first floor. She then got on a second, very crowded elevator and tried to push the button for the fifteenth floor, but it did not respond. Instead, she got off at the sixteenth floor and there she was able to find the staircase. Laura started descending the stairs but there were no exits. She started running down the stairs, searching, to no avail, for a way out of the stairwell. After about fifteen minutes of stumbling down the stairs, she found a way out. She opened the door and found herself again on the first floor. She was frantic; she was panicked; she was sitting straight up. Drenched in sweat, Laura realized that she had woken herself up from her nightmare. | Translation - Italian
Laura si risvegliò da un sonno agitato a causa di ricorrenti incubi. L'incubo più spaventoso era ambientato in un albergo a 5 stelle. Non importava ciò che Laura facesse, non riusciva a trovare il modo di ritornare nella sua camera al quindicesimo piano. Era ferma al primo piano, davanti a tre ascensori. Ciascun ascensore andava ad un piano diverso, ma non erano indicati. Ne prese uno, che la portò al quattordicesimo piano. Quando uscì dall'ascensore, si trovò davanti file e file di stanze. Laura andò disperatamente alla ricerca delle scale, ma non riuscì a trovarle. Aspettò di nuovo l'ascensore e scese di nuovo al primo piano. Prese allora il secondo, un ascensore molto affollato, e tentò di premere il pulsante per salire al quindicesimo piano, ma non dava alcuna risposta. Invece giunse al sedicesimo piano e lì riuscì a trovare le scale. Laura iniziò a scendere le scale ma non c'erano uscite. Iniziò a correre giù per le scale, cercando, inutilmente, una via d'uscita dalla scalinata. Dopo aver sceso le scale con passo malfermo per circa quindici minuti, trovò una via d'uscita. Aprì la porta e si ritrovò nuovamente al primo piano. Era inquieta, presa dal panico; stava seduta in maniera eretta. Bagnata fradicia di sudore, Laura si rese conto di essersi svegliata dal suo incubo. |
