German to English: Sepsis General field: Medical Detailed field: Medical (general)
Translation - English Prelimnary statement: Sepsis is a complex, systemic, inflamatory host reaction to an infection. At this time, there is no parameter which alone can lead to a sepsis diagnosis. Sepsis, severe sepsis and septic shock describe a disease continuum that is defined by a combination of vital parameters, labortory evaluations, hemodynamic data and organ function. A bacteremia is found depending on antibiotic pre-treatment in only about 30% of patients with severe sepsis or septic shock.
