Source text - German Kurz vor sieben war sie da. Sie hatte erwartet, am frühen Morgen rascher voran- und früher anzukommen. Als noch eine und noch eine Baustelle kam, wurde sie nervös. Würde er durch das Tor treten, vergebens nach ihr Ausschau halten und als erstes enttäuscht und entmutigt sien? Im Rückspiegel ging die Sonne auf –sie wäre ihr lieber entgegengefahren als vor ihr davon, auch wenn es sie geblendet hätte.
Sie parkte, wo sie immer geparkt hatte, und ging den kurzen Weg zum Tor so langsam, wie sie ihn immer gegangen war. Sie räumte alles, was ihr eigenes Leben betraf, aus ihrem Kopf und machte Platz für ihn. Zwar hatte er immer einen festen Platz in ihrem Kopf; es verging keine Stunde, ohne daβ sie sich fragte, was er wohl gerado mache, wie es ihm wohl gerade gehe. Aber wenn sie ihm begegnete, gab es für sie nur ihn. Jetzt, wo sein Leben nicht mehr auf der Stelle trat, sondern wieder in Bewegung kam, brauchte er erst recht ihre Aufmerksamkeit.
Translation - Spanish Llegó poco antes de las siete. Por ser de madrugada creyó poder adelantar más y llegar más temprano. Pero mientras veía venir las obras pasar una tras otra empezó a ponerse nerviosa. ¿Llegaría él por el portón, la buscaría sin éxito y se sentiría de entrada desmoralizado y desencantado? Por el espejo trasero salía el sol – ella hubiera preferido írsele encima antes que largarse, aún si la encandilaba.
Estacionó donde siempre estacionaba y se dirigió lentamente hacia el portal, tan despacio como siempre lo había hecho. Barrió de la cabeza todo lo que tenía que ver con su propia vida e hizo lugar para él. El tenía un lugar fijo en su cabeza. Ella no había pasado ni una hora sin preguntarse lo que podría estar haciendo, cómo le estaría yendo. Pero, cuando se lo encontraba, para ella no había sino él. Ahora, cuando la vida de él no estaba detenida sino que comenzaba a fluir, era cuándo él más necesitaba su atención.

Vivimos en el lenguaje, y a través de él en sociedad como el pez de Juan Luis Guerra, en la pecera. Estudiarlo y traducirlo es por lo tanto no solo vital, sino ameno. Comencé por aprender idiomas, los usuales—inglés, francés y alemán— porque eran útiles; ahora aprendo otros por hobby.
Mi padre quiso que estudiara traducción en Ginebra, pero allí Ferdinand de Saussure pudo más y estudié Lingüística. Regresé a Venezuela y estudié Letras en la Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) en cuya “Tierra de Nadie”, crecían bellas esculturas y bibliotecas maravillosas. Allí tuve la suerte de conocer gente interesante, lo cual hizo que el lenguaje fuera para mí una pasión y un disfrute.
Obtuve en Venezuela diploma de traductora oficial del alemán, por lo cual siempre trabajé alternativamente como traductora también del inglés y del francés.
Estudié Letras y Lingüística hasta obtener mi doctorado en Sociolingüística en la Universidad de Georgetown. Trabajé como docente e investigadora en la Facultad de Humanidades de la UCV y en la Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) en Mérida, Venezuela. Ahora estoy jubilada, sigo investigando y escribiendo.
He vivido largos períodos en Alemania y en Estados Unidos. Estoy felizmente casada por tercera vez; tenemos cuatro hijos en conjunto y seis lindos nietos.
