Visual Examination
Visual examination showed the item to have been a tubular drive shaft of 80 mm major diameter with a short length at one end of 60 mm diameter to which a forged connector had been welded using a circumferential weld. Placing the part back together showed a part of the component at the failure site to be missing and not to have been submitted for examination.
The forged end consisted of a flat trilobial section with a central forged and machined cup section with the tube welded to its end. (See photo fig 1) The three legs of the section showed witness marks around the fixing holes from mounting in service.
There was no obvious difference in the witness marks between the arms. The inner and outer surface of the forging, apart from the machined surfaces, showed a relatively coarse shot blasted surface finish.

È stato sottoposto ad ispezione visiva un albero motore tubolare con un diametro maggiore di 80 mm. più un tratto corto con un diametro di 60 mm su una estremità a cui è saldato, con una saldatura circonferenziale, un connettore forgiato. Rimettendo insieme le parti, si è rilevato che nella zona del guasto manca una parte del componente, che non è stata sottoposta ad ispezione.
L’estremità forgiata consisteva di una sezione trilobata piatta con una sezione forgiata e lavorata a coppa alla cui estremità è saldato il tubo (si veda la foto fig. 1). Le tre gambe della sezione mostravano marcature attorno ai fori di fissaggio derivanti dal montaggio per il funzionamento.
Non c’era manifesta differenza nelle marcature fra i bracci. La superficie interna ed esterna della forgiatura, distante dalle superfici lavorate, mostrava una superficie granigliata relativamente grossolana.

Bei dem Einbau neuer Komponenten sind die alten Markierungen von den Schraubverbindungen zu entfernen und die Schrauben/Muttern nach dem Anziehen neu zu markieren.
Nach jedem Schließen der Deckel ist darauf zu achten, dass alle Schnellverschlüsse und Verschraubungen ordnungsgemäß geschlossen werden.
Beim Schließen der Deckel ist darauf zu achten, dass das Erdungsband nicht eingeklemmt wird.
Ebenso dürfen die Dichtungen nicht zu stark komprimiert sein, bei starkem Druck auf den Deckel muss leichtes Nachgeben der darunter liegenden Dichtung spürbar.

Nel chiudere la calotta occorre verificare che il cavo di messa a terra non rimanga incastrato.
Inoltre le guarnizioni non devono essere troppo compresse, in caso di forte pressione sulla calotta bisogna allentare visibilmente la guarnizione sottostante.
