In our example, we use a 15 kg platform with 15,000e (approved digits), adjusted for zero and full capacity under the existing gravitational conditions at Albstadt / Germany. If the platform is shipped to other locations, for example,Salt Lake City in the USA, Gibraltar Airport in Spain, Bogota in Columbia or the Geographical South Pole, what do you think would be the difference in weighing results at these different places of installation?
This doesn't seem to be too much at first glance, but if we have a closer look at what is allowed, the picture clearly changes. The Weight and Measure regulation, for example OIML, says that the allowed failure at maximum capacity in Class II, i.e., for this scale, is +/- 1g only. That means, in those examples, we have exceeded the allowed error range 13 to 52 times – so it's definitely not acceptable.
In fact, this is a deviation which can be easily recalculated for any other weighing capacity. A floor scale with 1500 kg, for example, would have 100 times the failure of a 15 kg scale, so in Gibraltar, the weight would be 1,431 g or 1.431 kg less.
The higher the altitude, the lower the load. That is, although the mass is the same, the load display is lower if you are on a mountain. On the other hand, the lower the altitude, the higher the weighing signal. That is, the deeper you are in the earth, the higher the load and the load cell display.
