Keep your curiosity sharp, and you will never become too old to appreciate life.
I am a combination of curious and adventurous. When the time came to decide what and where to study, I picked Russia, actually it was the Soviet Union, considered the evil empire by Western standards. Well, after a 5-year total immersion in a country so different from my Panamanian roots I became an interpreter with the unusual Russian-Spanish language combination. Who would have thought that someday and after so many political changes in the international arena we would see the end of the socialist block and I would be able to say I was there to witness the beginning of the end. However, my most cherished memory from my life in Russia, was the opportunity to attend and visit the many palaces and museums that guard cultural treasures and their history; be able to speak to artisans, painters and authors without having to overcome the language barrier.
The passions are the voice of the body.
A few years later I decided to concentrate my research on the translation of cultural elements. This is a captivating subject: how different cultures adopt, transfer, domesticate the foreign element into their own culture. The history of translation and culture became my passions.
Do the best you can, where you are, with what you have now.
Today, my goal is to make cultural exchange possible in both written and oral form. The public experience when visiting museums, galleries, cultural centers or attending lectures, workshops on arts & crafts or photography is an opportunity to show that we are all creative creatures willing to communicate in person with one another. Are you a museum curator, gallery owner, a Tourist Bureau? Has your city a historic monument or holds a local or international festival? Let me help you spread your culture by translating your documents and promoting your cultural events.
