Source text - English We live in one of the tiny apartments in a multi-storeyed building complex that provides shelter to a number of middle-class families.
But, the members of the family Felis Domestica who have taken a fancy to our complex might very well outnumber the members of Homo Sapiens.
Because these quadrupeds with retractable claws, who can boast of their country cousins- Lions, Tigers, Lynxes, and Ocelots fear no one in our vicinity.
The increasing feline population possessing nine lives up their claws bothers everyone but provides comic relief to many.
These cats in our avenue have their own strict demarcations about territory.
The ground floor, first and second-floor mousers keep to their floors except for hungry forays into the kitchens across the lines of control.
The terrace is exclusively reserved for the young ones and occasionally used by the aristocrats from the erstwhile Siam for body lickings and sunbaths.
Some of the tomcats find cozy corners for a purring sleep in places where there isn’t room to swing a cat in, such as the watchman’s cabin, where they might have found the poor fellow catnapping.
God has gifted these cats with two voice boxes one for purring and another for meowing and a few of the feline sopranos in our locality keep all the residents awake with their nocturnal orchestras on special occasions.
Some of the residents who wish to be clean as a cat in pattens get irritated when these grey cats mess up their things.
Translation - Urdu ہم بھیڑ بھاڑ والے اپارٹمنٹس پر مشتمل ایک ایسی کثیر المنزلہ مخلوط عمارت میں واقع ایک اپارٹمنٹ میں رہائش پذیر ہیں جو بڑی تعداد میں متوسط طبقے کے خاندانوں کو جائے پناہ مہیا کرتی ہے۔
لیکن، فیلیس ڈومیسٹیکا یعنی پالتو نسل کی بلیاں جنہیں ہماری مخلوط عمارت بیحد بھا گئی ہے تعداد میں نوعِ انسان کی نسبت سبقت لے گئی ہیں۔
انقباض پذیر پنجوں کے حامل یہ چوپایہ جانور، جو اپنے جنگلی رشتہ داروں شیروں، چیتوں، سیاہ گوشوں اور میدانی چیتوں پر شیخی بگھار سکتے ہیں، اپنے قرب و جوار میں کسی سے خوف نہیں کھاتے ہیں۔
اپنے پنجوں کی مدد سے اپنی زندگی کی بازی لڑنے کی استعداد کی حامل بلیوں کی یہ بڑھتی ہوئی آبادی ہر کسی کو تنگ کرتی ہے لیکن بہت سے لوگوں کے لیے تفریحی راحت بھی مہیا کرتی ہے۔
ہمارے خیابان میں یہ بلیاں عملداری سے متعلق اپنی سخت حد بندیاں رکھتی ہیں۔
بنیادی منزل، اول اور دوئم منزل پر رہنے والی چوہوں کی شکاری بلیاں سرحدی حد بندی کے پار چوہوں کے شکار پر دھاوا بولنے کے علاوہ اپنی منزلوں پر ہی ٹھہری رہتی ہیں۔
چبوترہ خاص کر نوخیز بلیوں کے لیے مختص ہوتا ہے اور اکثر و بیشتر اسے سابقہ سیام کی شاہانہ بلیوں کی طرف سے اپنا جسم چاٹنے اور غسل آفتابی کے لیے استعمال میں لایا جاتا ہے۔
کچھ بِلے اپنی خُرخُراہٹ والی آواز نکالنے کے ساتھ نیند کرنے کے لئے ایسی جگہوں کے آرام دہ گوشے ڈھونڈتے ہیں جہاں کسی بلی کے انہیں تنگ کرنے کی گنجائش نہ ہو، جیسے چوکیدار کا کیبن، جہاں انہیں بچارا کوئی ساتھی مختصر نیند کرتے ہوئے بھی مل سکتا ہے۔
خدا نے ان بلیوں کو دو نرخروں سے نوازا ہے ایک خُرخُراہٹ والی آواز نکالنے کے لیے اور دوسرا میاؤں میاؤں کرنے کے لیے اور ہمارے مقامی علاقے میں چند پنچم سُروں والی بلیاں خصوصی مواقع پر اپنے شبینہ سازوں کی بدولت تمام رہائشیوں کو جگائے رکھتی ہیں۔
انتہائی صفائی ستھرائی کے عادی کچھ رہائشی تب مشتعل ہو جاتے ہیں جب یہ سرمئی بلیاں ان کی چیزوں کو تہس نہس کر دیتی ہیں۔
