The development of anthropological theory began in the era called the Enlightenment. The social philosophers of the eighteenth century were the first to expose the central issues of contemporary anthropology and worked resolutely, but without success, to formulate the laws that govern the course of human history and evolution of differences and socio-cultural similarities.
