Vou procurar resumir na primeira parte deste capítulo o que sabemos das condições que facilitam o crescimento psicológico, definir o que sabemos explicar e as características do crescimento psicológico. Vou tentar explicar o que quero dizer quando falo de sumariar o que nós «sabemos». Pretendo dizer que me limitarei às afirmações sustentadas em provas experimentais objetivas. Falarei, por exemplo, das condições do crescimento psicológico. Para cada afirmação feita, citarei a propósito um ou vários estudos mostrando que se verificam alterações no indivíduo em presença dessas condições, alterações que não se produzem quando essas condições estão ausentes, ou presentes em menor grau. Segundo a expressão de um investigador, progredimos na identificação dos agentes primários que provocam uma alteração que facilita a evolução da personalidade e do comportamento no sentido de um desenvolvimento da pessoa. É naturalmente necessário acrescentar que este conhecimento, como qualquer conhecimento científico, não pode deixar de ser hesitante e certamente incompleto e que, sem dúvida alguma, terá de ser modificado, contrariando em parte e completado por um laborioso trabalho do futuro. No entanto, não há qualquer razão para lamentar este conhecimento limitado, mas duramente conquistado e que nós hoje possuímos.
Translation - Portuguese OBJECTIVE KNOWLEDGE
I will attempt to summarize in the first part of this chapter what we know about the conditions that facilitate psychological growth, define what we can explain and the characteristics of psychological growth. I will attempt to explain what I try to say when I talk about summarizing what we «known». I intend to say that I will stick to statements sustained by experimental objective proofs. I will talk, for example, about the conditions of psychological growth. To each statement made, I will quote for this purpose one or more studies showing that changes are produced in the individual in presence of said conditions, changes that are not produced when those conditions are not present, or present more slightly. According to the expression of an investigator, we progressed with identifying the primary agents that provoke a change that facilitate the evolution of personality and behaviour in the sense of personal development.It is absolutely necessary to note that, this knowledge, like any scientific knowledge, cannot cease to be hesitant and certainly incomplete and that, without any dought, it must be modififed, contradicted, in part, and completed by a diligent future work . Nonetheless, there is no reason to pity a knowledge so little, but so toughly achieved and that we today possess.
