I haven’t changed my rates over the last 3 years (my rates are probably higher than average). Anyway, my long-standing customers receive a lower rate than newer clients. Nowadays, instead of increasing my rates, I tend to quote each project individually, based on language combination, field of expertise, number of words, technicality, deadline, document type and other practical criteria.

My rates are about the same since 2013.
However, my overall income has reduced for three reasons:
1. The USD rate dropped 10% in Brazil in the past 12 months.
2. The ratio jobs from abroad/in Brazil has dropped about 15% in the same period, and Brazilian clients pay less than abroad.
3. The overall volume of words per month has dropped about 5% this year.
So, although the prices are the same, my income in 2017 is almost 30% lower than in 2016, despite working just a... See more

But in 2018, the trend is to revert all three factors.

I'm earning more, mainly because I'm working with more direct clients and fewer agencies.

Hoping to continue this trend in 2018.
