Several, in fact. My favorite story: The son of a man I wrote to in 1974 found my letter in his father's briefcase in 2014 and located me through ProZ to respond--40 years later!

That's a lovely story Muriel!
My friends haven't found me, but I have found friends and colleagues. I just today checked up on the contact details of a translator I used to outsource to as a PM, to recommend their services to an agency for a job I didn't feel I could do justice to.

Not through Proz, but thorough LinkedIn. I’ve been contacted by PMs who changed jobs and lost contact with me, by one or two clients who had disappeared, by a distant relative and even by the owner of the house I lived in for a few years in Brussels. Through Proz I have developed some very good virtual friendships…

I think some people have found my profile trying to find me, from other areas in my life. I prefer to keep my translation work separate from other areas of my life, and thankfully people can also find me on Facebook and tend to message there.

Let me put it this way,

While I do not mind people contacting me with job offers via Linkedin and Facebook, I have no desire being contacted via Proz.com for anything non-job related. It is already bad enough to filter scammers and low paid jobs, so the last thing I want is to start getting more unsolicited emails.

No, but...

On a couple of occasions I have met a fellow translator and realized that we've interacted on ProZ.com, so I introduced myself as "JaneTranslates on ProZ" instead of Jane Ramírez. It worked!

No, but I have found colleagues whom I now regard as friends

I do my best to make sure people do not find me too easily on the Internet, and most of my friends know that. Just as I used to say my real friends never call me Chris, my real friends also know other ways of getting hold of me!
