Easy May 21, 2020

The last job I did was short and easy: a letter convening the members of a regional organization (my second longest-standing customer) for a general assembly in June.

Nowadays, I mainly do two types of translation for my major non-academic client: software strings, which can be a nightmare sometimes, due to the lack of context and/or feedback/communication with the client; and little in-house newsflash type snippets, not usually more than about 300 words, and often a lot less. The latter are as easy as falling off a log, except for the odd occasion when Spanish soundbites don't comfortably translate so easily. In fact, the sign-off on the one I delivered yest... See more

Easy (for me) May 21, 2020

Most of my work is easy for me but would be hard for most others. Isn’t that the point of specialising?

If you’re doing work that’s hard for you but wouldn’t be for others, you shouldn’t be doing it!

Easy enough May 21, 2020

It was a manual for a client I've been following for about 20 years, so it was just the usual stuff, updated for use with more modern technology.

The last translation job I finished was a Bruno Mars' biography.

That's not usually the case. I get a lot of documents written by local teams in developing countries. They are out there doing a great job at what they do, so I don't fault them for making the translation job harder.

Difficult May 22, 2020

Even if you are specialized, some texts are more challenging than others (and would be for everybody).
Such texts make you progress so there are worth investing the extra time.
