Source text - French Beaucoup d’associations culturelles, de clubs, d’institutions œuvrent pour la promotion de la culture malgache et mettent à disposition des artistes les moyens du bord pour s’exprimer. A Madagascar, les évènements culturels sont très prisés, les Malgaches ont une grande sensibilité artistique, la plupart des gens chantent, jouent d’un instrument, écrit, etc… mais la consommation et la production littéraire locale restent insuffisantes, faute de moyens.
C’est malheureux mais la plupart des artistes ne peuvent pas vivre de leurs talents. La musique, la peinture, la photographie, le cinéma, la sculpture, la poésie, le théâtre, la danse, le livre, etc…. Ce sont des domaines encore trop négligés. Il faut quand-même reconnaître que beaucoup d’efforts ont été menés pour améliorer les conditions de vie des artistes grâce au travail d'activiste permanent de ces derniers. Mais cela reste insuffisant.
Je trouve qu’il y a un travail à faire pour « éduquer » la curiosité des gens et les habituer à l’ouverture et à la découverte d’artistes ou de styles différents.
Pour la question de la langue, les personnes influentes qui détiennent des hautes responsabilités devraient donner l’exemple en faisant l’effort de bien parler. Quitte à prendre des cours pourquoi pas (à forte prédominance orale, la culture malgache favorise les bons orateurs) ? Le peuple a tendance à faire comme leurs réprésentants, si les leaders parlent mal leur propre langue, le peuple en fera de même.
Translation - English Lots of cultural associations, clubs and institutions work to promote Malagasy culture and provide artists with the means to express themselves. Cultural events are very popular in Madagascar. The Malagasy have a great artistic sensibility and most people sing, play an instrument, write or do something else artistic, but the consumption and production of local literature remains low due to a lack of funds. It’s sad because most artists cannot earn enough to make a living from their talents. Music, painting, photography, cinema, sculpture, poetry, theatre, dance, books and so on are still neglected too much. However, we must recognise that a lot of effort has been put into improving living standards for artists, thanks to constant campaigning by activists. But this is still not enough.
I think there is work to be done to ‘educate’ people’s curiosity and get them into the habit of being open to discovering unfamiliar artists and different styles. As far as the language is concerned, influential people in positions of power should set an example by making the effort to speak well. Make time to take lessons. Why not? Malagasy is predominantly a spoken language and the culture encourages good orators. People have a tendency to copy their political representatives, so if the leaders speak their own language badly, the people will do the same.
