I said this on another post recently but a lot of the disagrees and neutrals are based on Legalese and for once, I agree with the EU when they say on this topic:
the wording of the act should be clear, simple, concise and unambiguous; unnecessary abbreviations, 'Community jargon' and excessively long sentences should be avoided; imprecise references to other texts should be avoided as should too many cross-references which make the text difficult to understand; [end of quote]
My experience in France has shown me that legalese causes more problems than it fixes in most cases, is often used in bad faith by businesses and is used to show one's supposed superiority.
If it didn't exist, 90% of legal questions on this forum would probably disappear overnight!
