"Back" no es preposición, en todo caso adverbio. Si se refiriera a "later", sería un significado opuesto. Creo que nos basamos en la existencia del verbo "report back", que es parecido a "feed back", y en la construcción de un sustantivo sobre este verbo, cosa que suele ocurrir. Pero que opinen otros con más fundamento :)
