This is basically a third axle on a large bus or truck that is steerable to assist the vehicle in making tight turns. I can't seem to nail the English equivalent down.

Non articulated coaches over a certain length must be equipped with an actively steered rear axle known as a trailing axle. This greatly improves agility and considerably reduces the turning cicle.
