I agree with Alexander's answer. I also think that if the author chose to express the meaning idiomatically, then the translation should try to parallel the idiom. As it happens, the same idiom exists and is well known in English. In fact, I suspect in this case that the Arabic idiom is borrowed from the English one.
If for some reason, the choice is made to translate the idiom to a plain expression, I would suggest the following or something similar:
