It looks like little rails that will be put in front of the open fire, I don't think it's the same as a screen (Funkenschutz)
Any ideas as to what this is in German?

neutral yeswhere : Fenders are usually made of brass and surround the hearth on the floor; Kamingitter is a fireguard, which usually stands inside the fender. Sorry I can't offer a German translation but I have seen 'Kaminfender'in a list of antique items.
