Hello,
I'm translating a screenplay from Italian into English, but part of it takes place on the coast of India.
I have a conversation between John, who is English, and a Muslim man. This is the passage.
He looks through the window at the rising sun. John gently prods him.
R:
It is very hard. How do you say when the sun is born?
J:
Dawn.
R:
In Arabic you say “naimà”. The Hindus say “naima”. It’s almost the same. It is a good word for everyone.
I have contacted the author, who says that he had heard somewhere that this is what "naima" and "naimà" mean BUT he's not sure!
I need a word that will work in both Hindi and Arabic. Since the word becomes the name of the ship, my author is willing to change it if necessary.
A word equivalent to "rebirth" or " new beginning" would also work.
I have cross-posted this to the Hindi section too.

I am sorry , "Naima" does not mean "beginning of sunrise".
On the contrary, "Naima" means literally "sleeping/asleep", and it sometimes refers figuratively to sun at night or at sunset...
Considering that the word needed will mean "rebirth" as well as "ship name", you can use
FAGR OR SHOROUQ (without "Al" which is equal to "the" in English). Both of them are very good names for the ship while meaning "rebirth" as well.

u are right but the asker needs a word that means "rebirth" of sun and "ship name" simultaneously..I gave two versions because "fagr" is "rebirth" and can not go for "rising sun".Same goes for "shorouq" vice versa.so I gave 2 and let her to determine.

Depending on the pronounciation, Naima could mean Blessing, it is pronounced Ne'ma.
It is also a female Arab name, Naeema, which is the one that is blessed or that lives in comfort.

: That is exactly why I gave "shorouq" and Fajr". If "Fajr" is used, "rising" will be almost lost..and I think ...كل شروق ما هو إلا فجر و كل فجر ما هو إلا شروق على اعتبار أن كلتاهما تعنيان "rebirth"....regards

1- To send the question to English-Hindi and/or Hindi-Arabic asking about "dawn" and what it means in Hindi..
2- To check any liguistic reference books for a list of words borrowed between
Failing all that, we can find another word in Arabic that can more or less mean "dawn" or at least has this connotation. Do not worry, there is always a solution.
So you need a word which can be Arabic and Hindi and means "dawn"simultaneously.I think you have to post the question again to the English-Hindi Forum.
