Tourism writers are fond of this word, as in the excerpt below, and I can't come up with anything that seems exactly right as a translation, having tried "corner", "nook", "recess", etc. Any help is appreciated.

The key here is to modify the word, for tourism texts in English, a corner, spot or place sounds naked. You need to embellish it, in keeping with the rest of your text. Sometimes you'll choose "out of the way spot" for example, and other times "cozy corner" will work better.
