With no more context, it's hard to know if you're talking of books no longer available or exceptional books, although "fuera de serie" with the meaning of "out of this world" or "exceptional" is colloquial and I don't think it would apply in your context. Good luck.

el término "libros fuera de serie" se refiere a los libros que los suelen leer personas que piensan un poco más profundamente que la mayor parte de las personas. Por eso, esta clase de libro se edita y se vende por editoriales y librerías especializadas.

Por favor, en el primer enlace por abajo busca el hilo "libros fuera de serie" para ver de qué clase de libros se trata; y en el segundo enlace busca el hilo "non-mainstream books" para verificar la correspondencia de los dos términos.

Nota: el término "non-mainstream" significa literalmente algo que no sigue la "corriente principal" (mainstream) o queda fuera de ella.
