Typical of the German gothic style.
I actually know what it looks like, but need a translation.... in order to be able to translate into yet another language (Norwegian)

yes, it seems to be a tympan - I've found it's "gable" in french:

WIMPERGEN ET ZABRERI
Le mot allemand Wimperg, devenu Ghimberga en italien et Gâble en français, désigne le tympan gothique, en terre cuite ou en marbre, qui devient trè populaire dans ces vallées au XV. Les spécialistes en seront le frères Zabreri, tailleurs de pierre de Pagliero en Val Maira, auteur des deux plus raffinées « ghimberghe » de la région , sur les façades des paroissiales de Dronero et San Damiano Macra. Les frères Zabreri créent aussi de nombreux baptistères en pierre verte comme celui que l’on voit à Rossana : de forme polygonale, ils sont recouvert d’écriture gothique en fonction décorative, ainsi que de blasons et de motifs végétaux.

agree Catherine Bolton : Yes on "gable". My Enc. of Historical Architecture has a sketch of the west front of a Gothic cathedral and the part that corresponds to the "ghimberga" is indicated as the gable.
