German term

abfallend

German to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks tailgate opening system
Specifications concerning a tailgate opening system. I'm not sure how to translate "abfallend" in this case.

Wird beim Aufwachen oder Power-Up eine Betätigung des Tasters "ARWT-Heckklappe schliessen" erkannt, so muss das Signal auf dem CAN auch bei abfallendem Taster mindestens 3 mal wiederholt werden.

TIA

Discussion

Louise Mawbey (asker) Jan 11, 2008:
Hello Gert. In this case Taster just refers to a button.
Gert Sass (M.A.) Jan 10, 2008:
+ what do you use for Taster here, I wonder?

Two tech. translations for abfallen is deactivate or release, e.g. in relay systems...
But I agree, this doesn't seem to be very well formulated.

Peer comment(s):

agree John Jory : I doubt the author means that the thing drops off/falls off ;-)

agree Ken Cox : perhaps this means (reading between the words) that the signal is repeated at least three times when the button is pressed and at least three times when it is released (on the supposition that it might be missed otherwise under these conditions)
