I suppose this is actually a heat shield but it there a specific translation for it? This is all in connection with a LED patent and experts' advice will be appreciated.

Here is a selection of pics of small heat sinks - there are enormous ones about too, but they would hardly fit your context, methinks...:

As you see, they are designed with fins, or vanes, the function of which is to take the heat away from its source and dissipate it in safety.

: From the context it sounds like a 'heat sink' to me. Never heard of a 'heat sump', but that appears to be a completely different context.

: We're talking LEDs here, though. I'd agree with you if we were talking large-scale equipment, but your "Kühlkörper" and "heat sump" are active pieces of kit, while a heat sink is not...
