You can use the word itself, of course, with an exclamation mark. Depending on the sound and reason for the cough, it might be "ahem," although I think of that as more of a throat clearing sound.

Another couple of possibilities: "hack! hack!" That would describe a very harsh cough. Or "harumph!" to express disdain, disbelief, or dismissal. (I don't think one would "harumph" more than once.)
