English term

Gradients of Agreement

English to Arabic Other Management
Quotation:
As facilitators, we always need some ways to take the temperature and find out where people stand on an issue. This is a great tool to put on the flip chart, overhead, or just provide as a handout. It can help people decide where they stand on an issue.

To illustrate the point, you can ask participants to identify where they stand on a particular issue using the Gradients of Agreement.

الميول نحو الإتفاق

n The Facilitator’s Guide to Participatory Decision-Making, Sam Kaner et all introduce the Community At Work's Gradients Of Agreement Scale. The scale addresses the problems of getting everyone's agreement on an issue. Instead of asking everyone for a simple Yes or No to a proposal, which can force people to take positions that do not fully reflect their position, you instead poll everyone's agreement to it along a predetermined scale. The Community At Work Gradients Of Agreement Scale looks like this:

Endorsement - "I like it."
Endorsement with a Minor Point of Contention - "Basically I like it."
Agreement with reservations - "I can live with it."
Abstain - "I have no opinion."
Stand Aside - "I don't like this, but I don't want to hold up the group."
Formal Disagreement, but Willing to Go with Majority - "I want my disagreement noted in writing, but I'll support the decision."
Formal Disagreement, With Request to be Absolved of Responsibility for Implementation - "I don't want to stop anyone else, but I don't want to be involved in implementing it."
Block - "I veto this proposal."

وسيلة للتعرف علي الاتجاهات التوافقية

Gradients of Agreement is a tool decide to build group consensus. This is especially important when the item being considered is crucial to the successful completion of the group’s ultimate goal. Rarely, in group decision making are there true “yes” and “no” responses. More often than not, there are many “shades” of yes and no. Any variation from true “yes” and “no” responses can sabotage the final project outcome. Gradients of agreement helps to identify those “shaded” area of responses and move the participants to agreement.
