- The finishing stage is when the designer fits, hems, and presses the garment to give it a polished look. Designers must remember that the first sample garment is a test. Draped muslins, flat patterns, ***cutting tickets,*** fittings, and the input of all those who’ve worked on it will establish a dossier about what went right with the plan, what can be improved about the process, and whether or not the idea is viable.
- Technical fashion sketches are designed to provide more detailed specifications about the actual garments. These simple line drawings are also called flats because they are drawn like clothing lying flat rather than on a figure. This type of fashion drawing is also used on the ***cutting tickets*** that accompany a garment during production or on line sheets with information required by buyers.
Once the sales representative starts to write orders, the manufacturer will begin to write cutting tickets. This will give a good idea as to what items in the line are going to be good sellers, and what will not. An estimate of the yardage will then be made and the fabric will then be ordered. As soon as the fabric arrives for production it must be checked for flaws or shading. If this is done as soon as the fabric is received, there maybe time enough to return any damaged goods and receive replacement fabric.
