German term

Verschwartung

German to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
(I can only find clinical explanations for this.) It occurs in a plan for health and safety on a building site.
Here it is a means of "Sicherung der Gefahrenbereiche" in the work of Tischler, Schreiner, Zimmerer (joiners and carpenters). Immediate context: "Einsatz von Verschwartungen, Hilfskonstruktionen".
I think it may be a board placed to prevent people from falling, but that is not clear.
Proposed translations (English)
4 guardrail boards/toe boards/planking

@Paul Yes, I have seen typos such as you suggest, and I think yours was an intelligent guess, but I think it's more likely that Bernd is right this time. If they meant Verschwertung, they should have written it, because Verschwartung also seems to make sense now!
Oliver Walter (asker) Oct 14, 2010:
Board, ja Falls Schwarte ein slab/board ist, bin ich damit zufrieden - das passt, scheint es mir, in diesem Fall.
Bernd Runge Oct 14, 2010:
Schwartenbrett manchmal auch Schalbrett, ist die Langfassung.
Bernd Runge Oct 14, 2010:
Schwarte ist ein slab/slab board. Also Auskleiden mit Schwarten. Check mal, ob das passt, dann kann ich's ja noch einstellen.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Your answer and the discussion gave me the confidence that it is boards, or perhaps planks, though I could not decide from the context which was more correct - I called it boards."
