Japanese term

a接点

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng relays
It is the description of a terminal on a connector:
a接点リレー出力

What is the usual translation for 「a接点」?
My guess is "make contact", but I found references for "a contact", "arbeit contact" and "Form A contact" as well.

Here is the Japanese Wikipedia page on this topic;

normally open contact

Based on the information on the Wikipedia page you linked to (電流を流したときに接点が閉じる) and a couple of net searches, I think it's just another name for a NO (normally open) contact (also mentioned right below that section).

And another one - anecdotal evidence, but it seems to confirm my opinion: http://nob28.blog67.fc2.com/blog-entry-25.html

agree Julian Rippon : The English version of the original Wikipedia page also calls it a "Form A contact" - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relay#Pole_and_throw

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you. As it turns out, "NO" is what the end client prefers."

contact a, contact 'a'

The 'a' specifies a contact.
The next contact might be contact 'b'.
Note from asker:
If you mean "a" is simply a name of the contact, I don't think so. It is the TYPE of the relay contact.
Peer comment(s):

agree Derek Newpor (X) : Often translated as "tangent" or "point of contact" but in this case clearly "Contact a"
