Italian term

ma

Italian to English Art/Literary History Bilbliography
Bibliography of a historical text

The entry reads "nome del libro. Settembre 1966-giugno 1967, Editrice Agenzia Coloniale, Rome, s.a. (ma 1912), pp. 26-27."

I have no idea what "ma" represents here

Any suggestions appreciated

Discussion

Tom in London Oct 9, 2011:

I think you should ask the client, just to make sure!

The literal translation should be fine.

It means that although there is no year of publication the year is known.
Peer comment(s):

agree Julia Campbell Hamilton : Agree that date in question is not necessarily that of the first edition.

date not given but presumed to be ...
It is the presumed date of this edition, not necessarily the first one.
Both these sources advise the use of square brackets.

g) If there is no publication date, but you are able to find out from reliable sources the approximate date of publication, use [c. 2005] for circa 2005, or use [2005?]. Always use square brackets [ ] to indicate information that is not given but is supplied by you.
