Russian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Trying to find the Ernst Bloch quote below in English, but having little luck. I would imagine an official translation already exists, so that's what I'm interested in. TIA.

Сначала люди являются друг для друга более или менее отталкивающими, более или менее притягательными чужаками; именно так они и должны учиться, что не подразумевается само собой.

Thanks, everyone! That is indeed the quote. (Thanks also to Andrei for PMing it to me.) Katerina, please post it as an answer.

p. 9 of the book mentioned below "At first they are alien:
more or less repel, more or less attract. They are in no way
obvious; their acquaintance must be made if they are to be
known. The process by which they are known is entirely ex-
ternal; only thus does learning bring experience; only thus, by
virtue of what lies without, does the inner self come to know
itself."

I found it in the book mentioned by AxmxZ. I got it one time in a second book store. It makes for some fair reading. At least it's well translated, which you can't say about Adorno translations.
AxmxZ Apr 3, 2012:
Это из Tübinger Einleitung in die Philosophie. В оригинале: "{Und draußen geht dem Ansich des Um-uns auf, worin Menschen stehen und unter, neben oder über ihnen Dinge.} Als mehr oder minder abstoßende, mehr oder minder anziehende Fremdlinge zuerst; sie müssen so, als keineswegs selbstverständlich, erst gelernt werden."

Я знаю только один английский перевод этой книги: "A philosophy of the future," translated by John Cumming (New York: Herder & Herder, 1970). К сожалению у меня нет его под рукой.

Anything more? Do you know anything more about this work? Such as its German title, or anything more about it, more about the context in which the sentence appears?

Sorry, the page number in the last posting was wrongly typed. I didn't notice it ;-)
