Here's the full sentence:
Transformer le château en musée, donc l’ouvrir à la visite alors qu’il avait toujours été inaccessible à la population, et le musée en monument, c’est-à-dire pérenniser son existence et anoblir son statut, a paru naturel en ce tournant du XXe siècle, travaillé par cent ans de positivisme patrimonial.

I assume that "legacy positivism" is as unusual in English as "positivisme patrimonial" is in English.
